Has anyone here successfully implemented an RSS multimedia feed to their site? If so, do you care to share how you use it, what reader or player you use, and any downfalls that it may have. It seems like this is a great and easy way to get fresh content.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I came accross this site: castsource_com and it will automatically populate a link to RSS videos with the keyword of your choice from yahoo videos. I'm sure you can do the same with Google too.

Mike

Edit: I typed the wrong address, it should be castsource.com Sorry.

Mike and all,

Is anyone able to tweak the code on this to have the videos open in a player?

Here is is a free rss feed builder you can use in conjuction with castsource.com that might provide the output or some output that could be recoded to give you the effect you are looking for:

http://www.rssfeedreader.com/

I used it to build a couple quicky javascript pages to see how they display, the video does not open as an image would. These pages can also be generated in PHP :

http://www.wineshop.tv/Video_RSS.html

Hope this starts you in the right direction.

Cheers!

If we can figure out a simple way to get this little script to aggregate and also display each video one after another, it could be the start of the simple turnkey result we are looking for , at least in the short term.

Thanks for that link. I'm going to play around with it over the next few days and see what I can do. I think if we got all of the videos to display that thumbnail image that is included with the RSS, then we would be set. Also, if you can get an affiliate that provides the same style content, you could include those videos on the page as well and probably get some pretty good CTR.

Thanks again,

Mike

Plus if say the video description can be delivered in html, we would also probably earn some nice SE placement.

Cheers!

That's what I was thinking too. The only lead I've got so far is a reader called CARP that is supposed to be able to do videos. I've just downloaded the free version here: http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/articles/7/confirmed.php?f=ZIP&v=i0fe

(or http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/ if that doesn't work)

I installed it on one of my sites but you can't use the video feature on the free version. I'm going read a little more and make sure it works before I purchase it. The only downside so far has been that the RSS is unformatted out of the box but that's no big problem.

I'll keep you updated.

Epic Mike,

You may find this website useful: BlinkX.tv (http://www.blinkx.tv)
Here are some good links:
http://www.blinkx.tv/SmartFeedGuide.php
http://www.blinkx.tv/SmartFeedAPI.php

P.S. I don't spend too much time here at NamePros, and don't read every thread regularly... If someone else has already given/written this website in one of the other threads, sorry about repeating.

Smyrna,

Thanks for taking the time to reply and thanks for those links. I will look at them shortly.
