This morning I turned on Houston's Rod Ryan Show on 94.5 The Buzz and heard domain talk!
Domain talk on one of Houstons most listened-to radio shows? I was quite surprised.
Rod Ryan was talking about the enormous price that pizza.com sold for. And went on to discuss other big sales, like business.com and sex.com.
He then went on to explain how he had to buy the domain for his show from a cybersquatter.
He said that he has seen domains sell for large amounts and that whenever he gets a good idea, he goes to GoDaddy to register it. He owns about 10-20 domains.
But what worried me was how he described the industry to the audience of the (arguably) top morning show of the USAs 3rd largest city.
He described registrars and domainers as 'rapists.' That we're all out to take advantage of other people. He seriously threw the word 'rape' around about 7 times. Registrars rape you with all their upsells. Domainers rape you by cybersquatting.
If I knew their number, I would have called in. I don't normally listen to the show and I was in my car. So I settled on writing him an email that shed a nicer light on our industry.
I'll let you know if he responds.
How does this kind of publicity make you feel?
