Ya, this is dam worst than Katrina.
Those ppl really should evacuate.
a hurricane 5 is capable of ripping houses completely apart and it will be very unlikely ppl can survive it.

It will definitely cause more wind damage but the flooding would not be to the extent of Katrina... I'm not saying Katrina wasn't a bad storm but the storm didn't directly make it the big news story it was, the levees breaking and flooding a city that sits below sea level was the big story. We will see two completely different types of damage from this storm but you still can't downplay the fact its a Cat5... maybe it will weaken before it makes landfall?

Nature never ceases to amaze me. Just when you think it can't get worse... it does.

I'm originally from California and I'll take an earthquake anyday to a hurricane! Having said that... D-:

Anyone know how much punch this storm might have once it reaches the DFW area?? D-: D-:

Thanks!

I remember hearing on the news that this will have an even bigger effect on the oil refineries and prices than Katrina because a lot more are along Texas

Tornados will probably be the biggest concern.
That far north you will get some strong wind and rain but nothing dangerous.

If you want to ride her out, go ahead, however I don't recommend it personally.

Keep us updated.

I don't think this one will be quite as bad as Katrina was, as mentioned before, due to New Orleans was below sea level.

However, it will be devastating none the less.

Best wishes for the people of Texas.

Whatever it is, I know it will be exciting!

I love storms. I am just called to them...without going anywhere that is.

Its wayyy stronger than Katrina, but we are above sea level...you can say goodbye to a bunch of our freeways though. I-10 can be considered history.

About 3 years ago there was TROPICAL STORM Allison. That dumped an unbelievable amount of rain. In most parts, one of our major freeways, I-10, was under 50 feet of water.

Rita is going to be BAD because now we have wind and hail to worry about, not to mention my neighborhoods name is called Shadow Wood....shadow because of the thousands of 100 foot tall pine trees that are barely 2 feet in diameter.

This is EXCITING!

I'm personally hoping none, given I'm 3 hours south of DFW and I don't want to get trampled on by the storm.

A very scary storm! I have family in Houston, and they are evacuating. My uncle is driving upto Nashville, and might come up here to Toronto if need be. I hope the storm weakens and doesn't cause extensive damage.

Let's hope for the best. And Garrett; GET OUT :yell: !

Best thing for him is to be with his family. He should go to Toronto, you also never get any hurricanes there.

There was one in the 50's, hurricane Hazel, but you're right. Toronto is another 12 hours or so I believe, and with not enough preperation and young kids, as well as my aunt's dad, it might be hard. They have a hotel room there, so it's a bit relieving.

I'd like for them to come here though, too.

Ugh... our current emoticons don't express my concern! It's something like...

D-:... :'(.... :-/.... :(.... But in no particular order!

A neighbor just told me he heard it could still be a catagory 1 by the time it gets up to DFW. This is going to be my first "BIG" storm in Texas.

:(.... D-:... :-/.... :'(.... Doh!
