The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
1% of domainers own 99% of premium domains. Yet, 99% of domainers are sold the dream that they can become rich like the 1%.

Team.com, f*ck.com, What.com.... those are all 4L.com and worth more than Unemployed.com for sure, and you have right, they are not Premium they are SuperPremium!

Those are not LLLL domains. Those are WORDS with VALUE! Huge difference.

lots of great names however here is how i would value these

1969.com rick $180,000 me $5,000
1620.com rick $160,000 me $5,000
CigarBlog.com rick $250,000 me $3500
GetTogether.com rick $1,550,000 me $15,000
ServiceDepartment.com rick $750,000 $4500
iBankOnline.com rick $400,000 me $20,000
SXW.com rick $800,000 me 80,000
iHotels.com rick $1,600,000 me 100,000
iMurder.com rick $800,000 me 3500
Midddleman.com rick $1,750,000 me 8,000
Rumormill.com rick $750,000 me 30,000

rick total 8.9 million
me total 274,500

minus the 3 letter in the list above this is a list a good domainer could easily have

when you have the sale history he has you can afford to sit on many more names and hold out. i think he sold 20 names in 20 years. m I would sell these cheap and buy a few more one words. there are still plenty out there selling for less than 50k that just because its a rick name could sell for 10 times as much. there are certainly 3 or 4 one words I have my eye on with a low 5 figure ask that Im waiting for capital to come in.

That's ok, but it would make you FOOLISH to leave a lot of $$ on the table. I am sure MANY would have sold the domains I sold for over $25 Million for $250,000. What does that say? Maybe weakness, maybe desperation, or they don't know how to value a domain name.

..most of my domains has BIN price set. on Sedo.
just summed all, got $1,000,000+
felt instantly better
had a beer
had another one
felt even better...
isn't it cool to know your small portfolio of words and dots is worth a million or a couple?

get some beer and publish your figures too..

I am a newbie domainer, but have been buying and developing domains since the late 90's when they were $200 each. The following is my opinion and not supported by anything except my own thoughts. Domains used to be worth more when you typed a word into the browser bar and the .com came up, eg. you typed in sex and sex.com came up. Ever since browsers started redirecting to search engines it has diluted the value of domains. A domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can put whatever price tag you want on it, but that doesn't change it's value. I see domains for sale that are far above what I think anyone will pay for them. It just seems like the real estate market before the crash, everyone is waiting for a bigger fool to come along. If Rick had to sell all his domains tomorrow what percentage of the asking price do you think he would get, 10%, 20% ?

If I have to sell tomorrow than $50MM to $100MM is what I would have to be satisfied with. Poor, poor, me. I'll manage somehow. But if I have the time, or if I believe this is "Generational wealth" like Real Estate, I just need $$ for my lifetime and hope my foundation capitalizes even more after my lifetime.

I doubt he really owns "750-1000 domains valued over $100K", this a selection but not representative of the rest of the portfolio.
The value is something that is somewhat theoretical, especially with less premium domains.
Because we know very well that domain names are not liquid, they cannot be redeemed on the spot for cash like stocks.

And even if you own a great domain like a LL.com for example, you know you ask 6 figures at least, but there are not so many end users who have the vision to spend that kind of money on a domain name. Even when you own great names, you have to very patient if you want to sell at a great price.

How do you value your own domains
  • vs comparable sales
  • portfoliowide: statistical analysis (projection from past years)
  • plus wishful thinking of course
  • ...

I am a newbie domainer, but have been buying and developing domains since the late 90's when they were $200 each.
They never cost that much. At some point it was $100/2 years, then $70/2 years. Unless maybe you were stuck with some crappy registrar like register.com after the end of the NSI monopoly...

Domains used to be worth more when you typed a word into the browser bar and the .com came up, eg. you typed in sex and sex.com came up. Ever since browsers started redirecting to search engines it has diluted the value of domains.
Domains are still marketing tools, as long as businesses will be advertising them, they will remain valuable. In fact, the value of good, short domains continue to increase and the recent market activity is testimony to that.
I think domain names are going to last for longer than most people think, a bit like phone numbers.

Most of my names are ridiculously high price, well over 90%.....Gemstones.Diamonds listed $5M, if I negotiated down to $3M, the buyer will be very happy to get $2M off,...and I will be happy to get $3M...win

if you want 5 million the buyer will be very happy to get diamondgemstones.com for a low price.

https://uniregistry.com/market/domain/diamondgemstones.com

the strategy will only work if:

there are no other options for that price and below.
the buyer believes he is paying the fair market value (comparable sales in the marketplace)
the buyer badly wants the domain
the buyer has the funds to buy it.

if you look at Rick's 7 figure sales you will see that he does not just get lucky and it is not just him having the balls to ask for a lot of money.

Ebet.com - Over 1 million - The company was called Ebet. They had millions in the bank.
There was no other good option than "Ebet.com". Ebet.com was the best domain they could get.

e+word domains had sold for some good money in the past. Eflowers sold for $1 million. Gambling terms are high value. The price could somehow be justified because of other domain sales in the marketplace, they had the funds and they wanted it.

Ireport.com - CNN was the buyer. They had millions and millions in the bank. There was no other best choice than ireport.com for them. The domain might have had traffic that alone could have been worth a lot. I+keyword domains had sold for some good money in the past.

Candy.com - $3 million. best domain name in the candy industry. Buyer badly wanted it. Price could be justified by looking at other product.com sales like vodka.com Type-in traffic was said to be 40k/month. That alone would be worth millions over a decade.

xxxvideos.com - 1.4 million - This sale was not completed but it was a pure traffic sale. Traffic not the domain was sold.

Porno.com - $9 million - Buyer wanted it. Extremely wealthy. Great domain in the adult industry. One of the most popular keywords globally. Traffic alone worth millions. Porn.com sold for $9 million.Porno has same keyword stats or better. Traffic alone would have paid at least a part of that purchase or even all of it.

So what I mean to say is that 7 figure sales don't happen randomly or because you get lucky or because you put a high asking price on your domain. They happen for a good reason, when the buyer does not have other options, really wants the domain, has the funds to buy it and the sale price can be justified.

7 figure sales are also rare. The domains don't sell because an eccentric billionaire just happens to visit a domain that he likes and falls in love with and doesn't mind spending millions for it because he is so filthy rich that he doesn't care.

Maybe this will happen one day, so far it doesn't. Domains are not real luxury goods, collectors items or status symbols yet.

iMurder.com $800,000 would do well with iMurderer which you can now get for 10 bucks. I will have to add a few zeros to my i domain pricing.:xf.wink:

You have one single domain which alone worths more than all his domains together???

What it is?
POTATO.COM ??

Forget potato .com's - I am talking about the highest possible domain in history of mankind:

TOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOPTOP.TOP
toptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptop.top

This
mindblowwwing domain is not a 'normal domain' - it is 'much more than a domain'.
It contains exactly
21 times top (left side of the dot) - this is the highest possible number of the highest possible superlative, top, in a domain name while it ends with the highest possible TLD .top at the same time.
Also at the same time it has
exactly 63 characters (left side of the dot) - this is the highest possible number of characters a domain name can have.

top = 3 characters
21 x top = highest possible number of the highest possible superlative, top, in a domain
21 x 3 characters = 63 characters = highest possible number of characters in a domain name
TLD
.top = highest possible TLD

Those facts are
the obvious and clear proofs that it is 100 % not possible to top this domain.
This means, this domain is
the one and only domain which (can) exist(s) which can't be topped by any other domain - equal which one.
And this means, it is
100 % the one and only domain which (can) top(s) every other domain which (can) exist(s).
So, surely, this is
the highest domain of all time.

How dare you accuse the King of being off his meds.
The king never forgets to take his hallucination and confusion medication.
The hallucinogens @KINGOF.TOP is on can never be Topped!
You know what the problem is?
His system is getting used to them thus rendering them ineffective.
But still, he takes them religiously at the Top of each day!

Impressing, this is indeed a powerful portfolio.

I don't own such a portfolio but I am pleasured to own (beside my own portfolio) one single domain which alone worths more than all his domains together.

My valuation is based on the untoppable status and therefore the ultimate meaning of the domain itself.
It's worth is the logical result of semantics / mathemathics.

You have one single domain which alone worths more than all his domains together???

Well alot of us got in the game late. People that got in early could buy and hold great domains for a small fraction of what there worth today. Giving them the opportunity to have the best portfolios
