Hey all,

You're all familiar with reverse-ip to find other webistes and all, but what would you suggest be a good tool to find out the other domains a registrant owns?

For example, if someone's selling me one particular domain, and I'd like to find out what other domain names he has so I can make a counter-offer of a deal if he includes another name or two, what tool would you suggest would do this (before asking him outright)?

Or are there any ethical or legal issues involved here?

That's a good question that I don't know the answer to, but what like to...

The technology to do that must be available.

There's no such tool to pull up all domains owned by a registrant. You can however view all websites on an IP address, which often can tell you other domains owned by someone.

Thanks RJ..

Yes it's actually that very tool that got me wondering if there was such a tool that went beyond one IP address (which Whois now limits to a handful unless you register) and instead to more like the name of the domain owner and such.

There's probably spam-related issues concerned, but from the viewpoint of a tool like whois and how they're able to make a graphic representation of email addys now, this probably isn't too farfetched, and the technology is obvously available.

You have to be a registered member in order to use the service for those of you who don't know. :p

Yeah, I bet privacy concerns prohibit such a tool to pull up a registrant's domains.

Actually there is a way to find out every domain registered to one name or address but its not cheap, Dialog. About $5 per hour/query and its a very confusing system.

ouch, but that just comes to prove the technology not only exists, but is already in use... It'll probably take something like a whois.sc to popularize it but could definitely start an avalanche of new uses.

Privacy concerns may indeed be at issue, but it would really be interesting to have it because people sometimes register domains on a "set" to set basis and may register related domains, some of which they may not use or be open to selling down the road (including interesting terms you may not have considered before)...
