Hello,
I have NhaTrangRestaurants.com and SaigonRestaurants.com ( I vacation in Vietnam during the winter months and love the good food and restaurants)

I want to create a listing of all the restaurants in Saigon ...what scripts do I use? and with all the reviews too..
and maybe create an app.

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

There's tons of directory scripts out there to comb through. i don't use any of them, but I was thinking the safe bet might be to use a platform with directory + review + app-like options that's already globally known and established. Which brought me to WordPress. I've used WP extensively over the last 15 to 20 years, so for me, it would probably be my first go-to to test out a directory like you described.

For instance: WordPress with Directory Plugins (e.g., GeoDirectory, Directorist):
  • Description: WordPress, combined with powerful directory plugins, offers a highly customizable and extendable platform. Plugins like GeoDirectory and Directorist provide comprehensive directory features, including listing management, search filters, and user reviews.
  • Review Option: These plugins almost always include robust review and rating systems for listings.
  • App Option: While not a native "app," WordPress is inherently mobile-responsive, and many themes and plugins are designed for excellent mobile experiences. Additionally, headless WordPress setups can be used with custom front-ends for dedicated app-like interfaces.
  • Pros: Large community, extensive plugin ecosystem, highly customizable.
  • Cons: Can require more setup and configuration than dedicated scripts.
Do you think think that might work for you?

Thanks for the info...

Do you have examples of the websites using the plugin?

Supposedly, the following are using WP + GeoDirectory plugin:

https://capecodtoday.com/homes-for-sale/
https://www.winetasting.com/winery/category/napa-valley/

And, supposedly, the following are using WP + Directorist plugin

https://looglebiz.com/
Demo of it: https://demo.directorist.com/theme/djobs/
Demo of it: https://demo.directorist.com/theme/drestaurant/
Yes
I like those sites...
Hopefully they are auto updates.
Maybe I should hire someone cheap to do one and then implement on other sites

Wordpress and most the add-ons generally offer a toggled option for auto or manual updates. I found myself using manual after a few years, where sometimes and update breaks the code and requires a patch or fix. It resulted in less downtime when I put time aside to manually update, check quickly for bugs or breaks and then go about my day instead of an auto update breaking or bugging something and i don't realize it until a week or so later when I randomly check the site or someone contacts me about it. lol

It doesn't happen often, I think it only happened 3 times in a 10 or 15 year span and it was because I had custom code with affiliates and white-label partners integrated with my WP that conflicted with the plugins updated code.

So, i kind of created my own problem by customizing stuff to do things they don't normally do.
