Hi Everyone,

Just need some clarification from everyone as Afternic support are not listening.
I have plenty experience in the domain industry but have been away for a couple of years until recently. This is the situation
1) This week I sold a domain for $39K listed for sale in my new Afternic account after they were migrated from Dan.com 6 months+ ago and had Dan.com nameservers and an Afternic lander.
2) In my head, Afternic always only charged 15%-20% commission so when i logged in to add the Auth Code only then did I see the payout amount which was like $29K and I though it can be right
3) I looked on the website and saw that it says(as in my screenshot from yesterday)if a domain is using Dan.com nameservers it is still classified as part of the Godaddy Aftermarket Nameservers so I should only be charged 15%
4) The 5% Boost i understand, they got me on that one. Thye told me that when you sign up for an Afternic account is is set to default and you have to manually switch it off. I think that that is backhanded and irregular but there is not much I could do about that
5) I have not enteered the Auth Code yet and have the domain still locked

So am I in the wrong, even though it still says all this on their website that I should only be charged 15% + 5% or have things changed and they are right. Its a big sale so it is a big difference in payouts. Please let me know

In my opiniรณn 30% for a 39K domain sale is a complete abuse. And especially if you tell me that it was with the DNS of dan any of them, if it ends in dan.com it is the same to me.

It this case if Godaddy not resolve I go with this options:

1- if know the buyer or maybe any idea. Contact with her or find it out of Godaddy and explain the problem.
2 - Offer especial discount about 1K for this problem.
3- Cancell the order in Godaddy.
4- Go to Sedo and send all the data to go with the sale with the service: "ServiceTransfer". This have a small fee for only 3%.

When finish the sell remember tu put the domain name in the post: latesr domain sales! โ˜บ๏ธ

Congrants for the sale!

If this was not an "approved" nameserver, it is just some technicality.

The solution is simple. Do the right thing and charge the standard commission.

Brad

Or, @GoDaddy, go with your natural instincts and DO THE WRONG THING.

Good news. Received an email from Afternic last night stating they will adjust the commission to 20% as "a one time exception" .
After butting heads with the support twice, I honestly do not think this would have been resolved without You Guys(Namepros Community) help and James Iles assistance and also with me withholding the Auth Code. So I wanna say thanks, really appreciated.

The "one time exception" part still feels awkward, considering your description of the situation. Nevertheless, it's nice that you have to pay less commission. Cheers.

Perfect example of why people should not use Fast Transfer at Afternic - the domain would have already left your account, you would have had no bargaining power and they would just tell you you are in the wrong, then ignore you.

Congrats on your sale, and saving $3.9K in commission!

@Afternic - thank you for doing the right thing here. You should also clarify how this scenario will be handled in the future (for others who had DAN LTO Nameservers where the lease did not go full term and the Dan Account was converted to Afternic).

LTO names are now transferred to GoDaddy. If the seller gets the name back, they'll have to set nameservers to afternic.

@GoDaddy This should qualify as GoDaddy Aftermarket nameservers, especially since OP said that the LTO was cancelled, and DAN.COM did not change NS back to ns1.dan.com ns2.dan.com.

Agreed and this is clearly not the seller's fault.

Good job - I once got charged 25% on a verified NS1/2.AFTERNIC.COM transaction and long story short, I never got a penny back. Some error happened with the verification and Afternic blamed my registrar for an outage and my registrar had no record of any outage, so they called BS on Afternic.

So basically I didn't get a penny back, and I am hardly alone in that boat. There was a large number of X-Twitter threads about people overcharged on commissions during that same period of time.

I am glad to see that @GoDaddy did the right thing in this situation.

It's clear that the domain owner's intent was not to use some third party nameservers.

GoDaddy still made a healthy $7,800 commission at 20%.

Congrats on the sale.

Just wanna say before the thread closes thanks again to the community

In all honesty, after having my names at Dan.com for many years and moving over to Afternic it seems like what should have been a step up into a bigger and better marketplace/company instead feels like 2 steps down from Dan. Lots of things. Not just the support, but the dashboard and things like adding "Afternic Boost" 5% commission automatically when you open an account seems underhanded and grimey. Afternic Boost should be something you opt into not have to manually opt out of. No way would I have ever agreed to it, I am not being greedy, its just that companies that work like that are hard to be trusted.

Just wanna say I am not blaming Godaddy, never really have many problems with them, Its Afternic that needs to up their game

I will soon be listing some nice names here cheaply as a thank you to the Namepros community

Thanks, Dot Superstore

By the way. None of the thousands of sites with these nameservers are currently working. The nameservers respond with A/3.64.163.50 and that DAN.COM webserver is not accepting connections on port 80 (http) or 443 (https).
@GoDaddy Maybe redundant, but...

The DAN.COM webserver at 3.64.163.50 is down, affecting a lot of customer domains. You can fix this either by updating the current A/IP records, or restoring the webserver so that it will accept connections again.

Let me know if you need help.

Congrats on your sale and an appropriate ruling in your favor.
