I think what OS you might want to go with is the BSD or Solaris since that is UNIX in a nutshell. With Solaris you will get very small amounts (if non) hosting providers offering a control panel or the system itself. Solaris is based off of BSD which is based directly off of the AT&T's UNIX system...which according to my research WAS the first UNIX system (Actually AT&T gave the system to Univerisity of Berkley for free for development which in turn got free advertising and free development on AT&T's UNIX system...later on AT&T wanted their code back went to court lost the the University of Berkley since the code changed enough to make it its own OS designed by Berkley itself). So technically Linux and Unix isn't the exact same thing. With UNIX it's harder to update drivers, harder to get things to work (as they are more system propriatary) and is more stable...again look at netcrafts bsd uptime http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/today/top.avg.html....Linux isn't eve n on the map on the longest uptimes :D).

So in a sense yes they function almost the same way but stability wise the different branches do make a difference. Hence maybe why he is asking specifically for UNIX.

Unix, Linux same difference really.

May I ask why you are looking for a unix server rather than a linux one?

Oh and I just relised::
"I dont have money to pay for this but i will be linking back to your hosting."
I thought you were asking for paid hosting.
