Type of Contest: LOGO Design

Prize: 1st $40, 2nd $20, 3rd $10

Contest End Date & Time: Thursday, June 7, 2:00 p.m. eastern US time. NOTE: This contest got posted late, so I have added two days - it now ends on Saturday, June 9, 2:00 p.m. eastern US time.

Size Requirements: Vector.

Color Requirements: Nothing too bright or wild (no hot pink or magenta!). Simple and classic.

General Requirements: I own 27 domains about state primary elections, such as NorthCarolinaPrimary.com. (These elections are used to choose each party's presidential candidate.)

For each domain, I want to have a logo that features both a United States flag and that state's flag. (Just design one logo for this contest - the one for NorthCarolinaPrimary.com, since that is the longest name. The logos will all be identical, except that the proper state flag is placed into each one, which the winner will do after the contest ends. I'm sure those flags are available in many royalty-free forms.)

There should be some type of element that indicates voting. The logo should also contain the domain name (including .com), in a strong, easy-to-read font.

Additional Information: Once a logo is chosen, I will want a web page to be designed. If the logo winner can also design a good page (for an additional payment of roughly that same amount), then that work may be arranged.

I hope this is all clear; PM me or post if you have any questions.

(If you want to read the comments I made in an earlier logo design contest, see this thread.)

is this still on? and in the end you are having 27 logos basically, is first prize still $40 or is there a bit more for the extra logos?

Well, I guess the contest is still on, even though nobody has entered yet ...

There will be 27 logos, but the only differences will be the domain name and the state flag - so the substitutions will be fast and simple. This will all be covered by the original $40 (a much higher prize than many of the logo contests here!). Also, the winner might earn an extra $40 by designing a webpage around that logo.

Last time I ran a design contest here, I got many good entries for a $20 first prize. I thought that doubling the prize would help draw even more entries. Maybe the contest announcement was delayed for too long (24 hours after I submitted it) ... or maybe the topic [primary elections] is confusing?

If anyone still plans to submit a logo, please say so!

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks to everyone who is working on this!

I am officially extending it by 48 hours. The new contest end day and time is Saturday, June 9, 2:00 p.m. eastern U.S. time.

(Note - I will be busy for much of Saturday, so please don't wait until the last moment, or I won't be able to offer comments.)

Regards,
Dave

Wow! The first two people have made a very impressive start.

nameXpert - Half of your logos use a check mark; the other half use a smudge. Is that the smudge that shows that someone has voted? We don't use those around here, so I prefer the check marks.

Out of the ones with the check marks, the first one is busy at the lower left corner (the check mark hides part of the flag, and the start of "North" doesn't show up clearly). The third one is kind of square; I was thinking more of a wide rectangular [landscape] design. However, the second one is nice! Maybe the lettering could be bolder or otherwise "pop" a bit more?

ralphie - This is terrific! I like how the flags "wave", and the lettering looks good too. The only thing that concerns me is that it sort of looks like the site's name is "Primary.com" (since the domain name is in two pieces). I will have to think about how big of a drawback that is. I don't immediately have a suggestion of how to revise it, but you're the designer - any thoughts?

Thanks very much for your work. This contest was slow to start, but it's going great now!

Hi,

Heres another one from me,

More good stuff!

l0zo - I like the design overall, but with such a long domain name, the all-caps lettering seems very long. I'm also not used to seeing spaces in the middle of a domain name. Instead of using all caps with spaces between the words, I wonder how it would look if you used upper case and small caps [or two different sizes of upper case], with the words closed up [no spaces]?

Also (and this applies to nameXpert too) - the partial-flag circles are cute, but I wonder if all the state flags would be as easy to identify if just that much of them were shown. (I should look at a display of state flags and think about that question. Maybe a bit more of each flag could be put into the circles?)

vsgartworks - the flags and lettering look nice, but it's very "busy" having those elements crossing the circles and being on several different types of background. Maybe you could try a different, less "active" type of background (and/or no background at all)? Also, "North" and "Carolina" should be in the same color.

Thanks, keep them coming!

vsgartworks - thanks for the revision. I'm afraid it's still not too close to what I'm looking for. The logo is pretty square, and I'd like it to be wide; the North Carolina flag needs a border (or else the logo needs a background), so that it is clear where the flag stops; and when the type is all in the same size and color, it is hard to read such a long "word".

Those are the areas that need improving, if you are inclined to try again!

Thanks,
Dave

By the way - as I mentioned before, I won't be able to get on the internet very much today. You probably won't hear from me again until after 2:00. So submit your best entries, and I will pick one tonight!

Thanks,
Dave
