Longer

I am pretty sure the longer the better. Maybe other members can verify.

it all depends if you promote by way of backlinks and seo.

It is a small part of the equation, but yes, it will help. Google's logic is that if you register the domain for several years into the future, you are less likely to be a spammer and more likely to be a credible source of information. It's not going to take you from the 30th page in the SERPS to the #3 slot, but it will help a bit.

hi ceejay ,

I don't know whether there is any difference in how Google sees longer registrations ... but if this is your first year domaining (from your Join Date here at NamePros it seems that you are a rather new domainer) ... I would suggest that you register your domains for 1 year at first

in a year's time (after you gain some experience) some/many of these early registrations will seem of low quality (or of very low value) ... it would be a shame to have some of those hastily chosen domains pre-paid for 3 or 10 years (while some of them you would not even want to renew when the 1-year renewal comes)

registering some low quality domains when you first start domaining is very common , many domainers can testify this
