Registrar discrepancies

I was trying to register a .name domain via DirectI and it was showing available, when I checked on other registrars, it was not available.

does it mean that if I had registered over directi , i would have lost money.

How can there be this discrepancy

It takes me all the way to the payment options. I almost checked out of DirectI

You wont lose your money. In case DirectI domain search is faulted, your money will be refunded, I am sure. But just check up some 1-2 registrars more. If they show the domain as available, probably it is. It happens sometimes search engines display incorrect results.

same thing happened to me at godaddy. they just refunded my money (for a .co.uk)

Looks like this one is a private registration, the Who IS information just says it is unavailable. Doesnt show who registered it.

This was a premium name so didnt want to miss it.

It happens (happened to me) @ Directi for short .name domains (premium?). I tried to register one that showed as available, and after checking my CP it showed as 'error' and my money had been instantly refunded, so there's no risk involved IMO.

Sometimes the registry of a domain might give "incorrect" or delayed results.
So one registrar might "believe" it's available while another might get the "real"
result that it's not.

On the other hand, that also sometimes happens among registrars. If they're
not able to get the name for you, more often than not they'll refund you.

I just reg'd a co.in domain with directi a couple of days ago, the first time I did a search to check if it was available - it said it was taken, the second time I tried it said it was avaiable, the sale went through ok and I've checked that the whois is now in my name - it is
