As of 23:00 GMT on 31st November, the popular myBitTorent indexing site has been unavailable through the mybittorrent.com domain.
The domain has been frozen by the abuse team at myBT’s registrar, RegisterFly.
“They received a complaint and without investigation or informing us took the decision to disable our domain,” administrator The Watcher told Slyck News.
It is unclear who, if anyone, complained to RegisterFly.
The website servers are still active and users are urged to use the mybittorrent.net domain to reach the site.
Domains ending .org and .us are also working as normal.
RegisterFly initially gave misleading information for the downtime. The Watcher gave Slyck his account of events:
“Twice they said I had changed the DNS settings, and then they said someone else had accessed my account (which turned out to be the IP of their tech support department). Then they tried to make out it wasn’t their problem but a problem with my hosting.”
After a total of over 2 hours of hold time to RegisterFly, The Watcher finally got through to a supervisor, who said that the account had been frozen by the abuse department.
To add insult to injury, the abuse department can only be E-mailed. After 6 hours without a reply, it is unclear when this issue will be resolved.
