Hey guys. I'm right now in the process of registering my first brand new domain name on godaddy.

Stuck in a couple of areas at the moment. During the registration process it mentions to chose either "Certified domain" for $4.99 a year or "Uncertified Domain". Is it better to select certified for better selling or does it matter?

Also wanted to ask about placing auctions as well.

Is it better to list your domain in the auction as "Featured" or just regular?

And should I list my auction on godaddy or sedo as a beginner?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

dont add any extras, just buy the name.

dont expect to regester something today and sell it. 6 billion people didnt want the name before you bought it.

Goodluck

I concur, no need to buy any extras with your domain. The only extra might be for domain privacy if you need it (check the godaddy coupon thread for codes).

Before listing, get familiar with the different types of auction listings and platforms. There are different commission levels which may affect your pricing.

I don't see the point of paying extra for "featured" type listings at either platform, especially with a new registration.

Also bear in mind a fixed price SedoMLS listing will get you exposure on Godaddy anyways.

Agreed!

Also, if you are new in this field, don't buy for resale purposes. Experienced domainers are struggling to get rid of their names.

The only sensible reason for you to register a name is to develop it. If you don't have any development plan, stay away from it.

"Certfied" doesn't mean anything! I don't like GD since going through all the menus is a PIA and takes up sooo much time.

Name.com is straightforward registrar and you can always find good coupons on NP. Check the registrar review section too. Most likely you will end up using several registrars.

Spend time searching for the right domains and list them in as many places as possible.

Much appreciated for the feedback guys. Alot to learn in this business. Do any of you have success in buying used domains? Reason I ask this question is if I'm just going to sell domains without a site or developing a site, should I go with older domains or does that matter?

Welcome to NamePros, I would suggest to spend some time on this forum, and read as much as you can. This is a great place to learn. There is more than just an age of domain, i.e. how many exact monthly searches receive the keyword, extension, etc.
