Registerfly.com - CAUTION!

NamecheapNamecheap
Watch
I have had some recent major trouble with registerfly.com and caution anyone who is using them to check your account. Here is what I've found:

Background info: Registerfly.com was formerly an Enom reseller without the enom interface. They are now an ICANN accredited registrar, and some of the domains there are still in the enom system as a reseller, and some you register lately are probably registered by them directly as an accredited registrar. As you do renewals at registerfly, if they were enom domains, they process as transfers from enom to registerfly directly instead of an enom reseller renewal.

CAUTION #1 - I've found that most domains that have gone through the transfer process in the last two months have a glitch that changes ALL the whois info to registerfly themselves. The domains are still in my account, but do no reflect my ownership or contact info.

CAUTION #2 - Some of the domains have actually had the DNS changed from my parking to their own parking DNS servers, robbing me of potential parking revenue and potenial domain sales of those who landed there.

CAUTION #3 - I found a batch of domains renewed arond June of 2005 that not only had all the whois info changed, but were not accessible from my account. As I've found them, they have moved them back into my account. However, there is a real possibility that if I hadn't found them, I would not have received renewal notices since they were not in my account list to be renewed and the emails were changed to registerfly's.

CAUTION #4 - I had one .biz domain that successfully made the transfer from enom reseller account to registerfly, but the renewal date did not get extended.

I urge anyone with domains at registerfly that have renewed in the last year,to check your whois records to see that they still list you as the registrant, and have not changed your DNS!

I still have about 25% of my portfolio there, but now intend to move them elsewhere. They have fixed most everything I've asked, but this still leaves a lot of questions as to their reliability and proper care of their database.

I am extremely disapointed since they have one of the most user friendly interfaces in the industry, too bad their back end scripts or database have so many bugs. They have a big website upgrade announced for about a week from now, that I fear will only complicate things worse. Their support also has no seemed to take these errors as being very serious. I caution other users to watch your portflios carefully to look for errors.

I've never had a single problem or glitch with GoDaddy that I can recall.. in fact, they've retreived domains for me that I deleted months (yes, months!) previously when I had second thoughts!

I see someone is touting DoDaddy, which I find interesting, because they are the major registrar that I have by far had the most problems with and the only registrar that I've, really, gotten burned by..

I have not seen most companies bulk tools work well. Domainsite and namecheap almost never function properly too(it takes a few attempt to get the info updated) . I too get notice from dotster when I transfer name away to other regstrar and name still in my account. I think this is just common with most companies. I too have not had any real problems with RegisterFly. The price is very good and i am used to the interface so I like them.

I've had the same experience w/ bulk tools at all registrars- some more than others. eNom, my primary registrar had a perfect record but, alas, I did hit a glitch a month ago, but I can live w/ a little bump in the road, once in awhile. The Registerfly situation looks like more than a little bump but may be a temporary problem related to the changes that the company has recently undergone- db changes etc. I'm going to cut them some slack but I don't have a large # of domains w/ them- certainly not the 700+ that you have w/ them, Adoptable. That's a large investment, not just in monetary terms but in the time spent acquiring and shaping your portfolio, not to mmention, the hassle and extra time spent in staying on top of the problem and insuring that it getscleaned up. Sheesh! I empathise w/ your plight, big time, brother.

I have never personally had a bad experience with Registerfly, that may be due to the fact I only have around ten domains registered there.

I find them all okay. RegisterFly's actually on my "good registrars" list... maybe I should reconsider after reading your experience

RegisterFly has more features than GoDaddy and its control panel is easy to manage, intuitive and with many other options to contact support serviceand get a reply... contrary to phone-only-no-answer-GoDaddy.

All the issues noted by AdoptableDomains have answers:

Since eNom is the new Registerfly's owner, many transfer and other transactions are experiencing a delay going beyond the normal but nothing to care about.

The whois information is usually changed after you use proctectFly and then you switch back to unprotected without update manually your information.

All those issues can be solved by yourself via the control panel, otherwise support will help you out with the rest.

Even in worst and lost cases, I've have a reply (and solution!) from them.

I think that the moderators should take an editorial position
on Registerfly and put a sticky on this forum that warns
Namepros members of the dangers of using Registerfly.
The complaints against Registerfly have been going on for
a long time now and it is obvious that this registrar is no good.
Does everyone need to learn this the hard way?
How about a permanent warning.

I used to feel better about RF when I knew someone there beyond tech support. A number of years ago, It was Tim Shor who could get past the red tape and make things happen, fix things, and make things right. A year or so ago, Paul V, known as username "regfly" on this forum got some things done for me and others and seemed to be a very caring and customer service oriented person there. He hasn't posted here since last December, so I wonder if he still works there. My assigned "account representative" hasn't been much more help than first line tech support lately. They seem to have grown to the point they've lost touch with the customer.

I was PM'd some information from another forum. One of the things brought up there was their New Jersey Better Business Bureau Rating stating:
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered and unresolved complaints. The company has resolved some complaints presented by the Bureau, however, some complaints remain unresolved or unanswered.

Click the link to see the actual breakdown of complaints and how many were resolved unresolved or just plain unanswered. Now I'm even more uneasy with them.

No, I am afraid you're missing the point. Complaints about this registrar have been going on for a long time. It's not just issues with the transfer of domains from Enom to regfly.
There is something which is not quite right with regfly :alien:
I can only hope they get their act together.
Just because you bury your head in the sand, the problem won't go away.

No, actually I have never used their whois privacy, still some names have reverted to the 'default' profile (that is, their contact details).
It can have serious consequences:
- you don't receive renewal reminders because it's their E-mail that is listed as contact (again, do not rely on reminders from your registrar or you might lose your name)
- if someone contacts you about the domain (ie. offer to purchase) you will never get the E-mails either

Agreed. Same for me. Most of the time they will just refund the money but not provide a solution. I've never had a serious issue with them but still too many irritating system 'glitches'.
One thing is for sure, their system is very buggy and it's rather worrying.
The bottom line is, I shouldn't be looking over their shoulder and checking my names all the time just to make sure everything is OK :imho:

I registerd 10 domains there yesterday, First time i tried they failed, So i regged them a 2nd time and it was fine but they have charged me twice on my card. Im waiting for it to appear on my online statement just to make sure then i will be asking for a refund.
GOOD LUCK!
It happened to me 6weeks ago, they said Vegas.us.com was availible, and so i paid via visa CC, and they hit it for 21.99 2x and they never gave me the name, as it has and is red, since 2001, my refund for the double charge never happened, they sent back one. I wrote over 8 emails trying to get the full refund and they said they were not liable.
ITS LIKE A NIGHTMARE WITH THEM, AND I LOSE OUT ON THEIR MISTAKE, AND GET NO NAME.
RF "BITE ME"..
I went crazy with Visa and they said they would open a case against them.
Will see.
THEY SUCK! :(

My card got charged twice but I realized what the error was. I was told I would get a refund back to my card & did withing 48 hours. I have not had any problems with them so far.

I have read some of the "horror" stories about Reg Fly & most seem to be overblown & somehow have some sort of user error. What else is new....

Speak for yourself, I haven't had any issue that hasn't been corrected quickly.

I've had a few instances where I've encountered funding problems with Registerfly and a few problems where support questions have taken days to receive a reply or never received a reply! But...

Using a CC card solved the funding problems for me (so far) and bypassing support and using NamePros' RegFly member has solved the support problem.. I'm wary but will still use them as an alternative source for domains if called for (60 cent .info tomorrow!)..
