Hello,

I need to backorder some domains that are currently registered at Registerfly.

Do you think Registerfly's backorder service - DropFly would be a good choice?

Has anyone tried their backorder service before?

Well ICANN already toke away their licence. So they wont be able to catch domains for you..

:hi:

Under no circumstances should you give RegFly any money for anything
at this point in time.

Repeat, DO NOT give RegFly any money for anything including Renewals.

Regarding their DropFly "service":

In my opinion, based on my actual experiences, the DropFly service was bogus.

I believe RegFly collected the money but never actually had the service set up.

I tried with many domains but RegFly could never catch anything. I now believe they never even tried.

I found it curious that there was never any communication from them
that they tried to catch a domain but failed.

I had pretty much given up any hope that DropFly was useful but decided I would try one more time.

I ordered DropFly to catch CulinaryMagazines .com. Not expecting any success I didn't bother to track the results.

Six months later I decided to check the WhoIs to see who had grabbed
the domain and to my surprise the domain was available.

It would seem DropFly couldn't even catch a domain that was available for hand regging. But the more likely truth is there was never any such service.

The reports over the last few months that RegFly took $ for domain registrations and renewals but never regged or renewed the domains and offered no refunds seems to confirm my suspicions.

Anyone able to prove me wrong?

Anyone successfully grab a domain thru DropFly or have evidence that
DropFly even tried?

I would also like to point out that the Registries have agreed at ICANN's request that no domains will be deleted even if they are expired until the
RegFly mess is resolved.

Be careful with RegFly!

Patrick

Thanks everyone for the valuable Feedback. I think I must not waste my money with DropFly.

Also, the domain that was to be dropped from registerfly have not dropped on the date it was supposed to drop. And is still listed in pendingdelete. So, I guess Patrick is right that no domain is dropped from registerfly for the time being.

SO I guess I only need to keep my pool and snapnames backorder intact.

Promo,

ICAAN terminated RegFly's Registrar Accreditation but RegFly
exercised their right to arbitration so they are still accredited (for now).

However, accredited or not RegFly is still taking money from customers but
not performing the service(s) paid for.

On March 26,2007 ICANN had a "Public forum discussion over RegisterFly".

Here's some excerpts:

RegisterFly ... Thereโ€™s always been a history of relatively high complaints.

"Those complaints include charge-backs. Charge-backs are when somebody asked their credit card to refund their money because they paid for a service but didnโ€™t get it. So a very high number of charge-backs indicates that people were paying for services they didnโ€™t receive."

"So ICANN registries and ICANN accredited registrars and the gTLD registries and ICANN worked together to put in a temporary plan to not delete any RegisterFly registered names for a period of time in order to protect their rights until this situation is resolved."

Think about it a bit Patrick..

There have never been a confirmed catch by them. So yes I read your posting, but it does not alter my conclusion.

Don't do it

Don't used Registerfly. Their backorder is worse than bogus. I've had one since 2005. You can update the domain names as they pass you by and I've updated many times but they haven't gotten anything. I think it is even worse than that. I checked the whois to one of the names that I had on backorder and found the new owner to be registerfly - and that was about a month earlier. In that time they hadn't changed over ownership to me. It took a phone call to support and a lot of yelling and screaming.
All the best,
Ted Sudol

ICANN put a request to hold on all registerfly names dropping with the gTLD registries. Since RF is now de-accredited, they could not even capture, renew, or pull anything out of pending anything status. It could be a few months before all the mess at RF is straightened out.
