Registerfly and PayPal Problems

I just got an email from Registerfly with the new promo codes so decided to take advantage of the $5.50 domain transfers.. I added funds to my Registerfly account via PayPal which showed as completed by PayPal. However, when I returned to Registerfly, the funds did not appear in my account!

This is the second time this has happened to me. The last time, it was only rectified after I posted here (and that was after almost 48 hours of no answers via email from Registerfly).

I went into Live Chat and their answer was that I needed to wait two hours as they were having problems with PayPal. If it was there then, I should open a ticket and send the PayPal transaction ID.

This is ridiculous that this has happened to me twice in a row... I'm very disappointed that they can't seem to iron out their problems over there.

I'll keep you posted... in the meantime, you can go to www.theflypaper.com for the promo codes.. maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

They must be having some problems. I tried renewing two domains yesterday using PayPal but neither one of them went through at RF, even though the money is gone from PayPal. At the end of the transaction when I clicked continue, it just took me back to the shopping cart. They should remove the PayPal payment option if it doesn't work. This is nuts.

Maybe Riceman will stop by to tell us what's going on over there.

We do apologize, the IPN interface has been having timeout issues with paypal the last two days intermittently. The error we are getting is "Connection timed out". Our developers are trying to work through the issue and we do expect to have it resolved today.

Please PM when your userid and the trans ID and I will take care of it for you.

I added money to my account via PayPal 3 hours ago & it's still not there...
Yipee!! Now I get to e-mail support & wait to spend my money...
If it is not working why the heck don't they tell you not to use it until it works...Now support gets hammered with emails to fix the problem...Fix it & then make it active again...

PM regfly here and I'm sure he'll get it taken care of.. they should post on the main page that they're having problems. It certainly makes me reticent to transact business there via PayPal in the meantime. Time is money in this business. Delays can mean losing out on a domain or sale.

Dave, when you started, did you add funds by beginning at www.registerfly.com??? Or, did you just go to www.Paypal.com, and add funds to www.registerfly.com. I lost $4 the same way once. So, I always start at www.Registerfly.com, click on the "add funds", then Paypal. Semms to always work this way. Don't ask me what difference it makes, but it almost like it goes to no man's land if you don't start at www.Registerfly.com first.

Right, I've never had problem adding funds to my RF account using PayPal, but using it at checkout didn't work right.

At least my support ticket was handled quickly. Kudos for improving support, Regfly.

From my experience, they do not like domain traders who buy domains from them only when they have a promo code. There is no money in that kind of customer and they have no problem getting rid of you in frustrating ways. You are lucky this forum is here things could've been much worse. Some were not so lucky to have this forum for backup to their problems with the almighty, cheap one.

If you think this PayPal problem was frustrating just keep buying domains from them with a promo code. You will find out soon the astronomical level of frustraion and disgust they will impose on you.

Ummm...thanks, but...ummmm...no thanks. I will stick with reputable companies that don't play games, thank you. You get what you pay for.

Good luck. You'll need it with the fly. They lov eto play games and they love to make up the rules as they go, too. Unless you are a sado, I canot see any reason to put up with it.

Personally, I don't think they'd continually post promo codes if they weren't meant to be used... and in the long run, these promo codes generate money for them in other ways. Word of mouth advertising is the best you can get...

I've also had problems with Registerfly the last couple of days. Not with the PayPal payment though. Have been trying to set up one of their backorders, but only the billing part has been working, not the backorder itself. Have got reply from the support (and refund). Was told that it would hopefully work again within 48-72hrs (counting from the 25th).

I had similar issues about a month back, when I was trying to transfer a large number of domains to them using a promo code.
a) when I initially made the PPal deposit, (initiated from Rfly site), after depositing and being redirected back to Rfly to complete the transaction, there was no balance showing in my acct and I couldn't complete the transaction, (which included about 50 names requiring AUTH codes that had been meticulously gathered and entered).
b) Due to $0.00 balance showing and wanting to complete the transaction, (as well as not wanting to have to reenter all of the data), I "redeposited" w/ same $0.00 balance=No transaction result.
c) Later when I returned, both deposits were in my balance.
d) Later, I rc'd about 45 emails telling me that the transfers
were unsuccessful due to incorrect AUTH codes.
d) My request to redeposit my Rfly balance back to my Ppal account was met w/ "Our policy is not to refund Ppal deposited funds. You may, however, purchase names and other Rfly products w/ your balance." Uh... I really did have that much figured out- using my balance for purchases at your site, that is.)
e) After a few emails, 2-3 phone calls, and 2 live customer service chats and after prooving to them that two exact deposits had been made at essentially the same time, they did, finally, relinquish and redeposited back one half of the original deposit to my Ppal acct.

It is still a mystery to me as to how and why almost all, (including .com and .net), of the transfers failed. Not being privy to exactly what was going on behind the scenes, am still not 100% sure if it was a convenient error by GoDaddy due to their "renewal grip" or Rfly's reluctance to renew massive groups of names at the promo rate, which I believe, at the time, included .cc's.

Bottom line- cost me several hours in setting the transfers up, having to retry several of them, attempting to find out where the breakdowns had occurred for both the transfers and the Ppal screwups, not to mention the monetary difference beween GDdy renewal fees and R-Fly promo fees and the ongoing frustration involved when one is obliged to fix others mistakes/ system problems.

It would be great to get member regfly's take on this.
