(only .co.cc domains)
No expiry. (unless they make one)

Register 3 domains per account.
You can have custom DNS or have it redirect.
I am assuming there are not ads, but I used custom DNS and it has to resolve...

You don't even need to give whois info! (it is not required, but you can)

You can make subdomains, emails, etc. from your own server!

There is basically no difference from that and a real domain, except co.cc is an actual domain, making registered ones subdomains.

I would not try auctioning them, but I don't see where it says you can't. You can't transfer domains.

Another link: http://co.cc/donate/donate.php
(I don't own this site)

Other free domains:

Donations and rep+ appreciated. :)

Be careful, since they are subdomains, if the

co.cc Registrant loses it or simply changes his mind , all your domains will disappear, that`s why they are free.

I absolutely understand that risk, don't worry :D
For a business site, such domains of course aren't really suitable, but for testing sites or eventually personal sites, those (sub)domains (which act like domains though) suit perfectly, not? :)

Interesting.
How does the owner of co.cc make money?

BTW the domain expires in
26-mar-2013
So there is no need to worry about losing the sub domains.

I think the only source would be donations, as I don't see any ads.

I have tried the nameservers and they work perfectly. No ads and emails, subdomains, etc. work.

Oh, I realized that if you redirect them, there are still no ads.

Although that may be true, majority of the people looking to get a domain for free are people who want to start their own personal homepage or website and dont want to pay for a domain name. I feel this is a great solution for those who are working on test sites or have a personal homepage. Most people will understand the risk since they are getting the domain for free. Just like other free services, it is being provided on an as is basis and may or may not last forever. But your not paying anything for it, so nobody should have much to complain about if you lose your domain. Besides, there are many other alternatives. One example would be http://uni.cc which I have used before in the past.

The owner can still close down the service whenever he wants.

Yes, but he doesn't show any reason to, and if he does he is bound to stop getting donations (if he is)

I just noticed that you can't register domains with 3 characters or less... But for some reason, you can register domains with two or more dashes in the middle (not at the beginning or end).

The only thing that would make this better is if you could transfer them to another account...
