Register.com Charging $50 for "Forwards"!

I ended up having a domain name at Register.com from an auction I won. Normally, I keep all my names at GoDaddy. For this particular name, I needed to set up a "forward" for it. I was shocked when I saw that the forwarded page was framed in a Register.com page with it's ad on the bottom. If I wanted it unframed, they charge $50/year!!!!! I could not believe it! After my 60 days were up, I transfered teh domain to GoDaddy.

This is the only registrar I've seen that will not do a clean forward for free. I'm curious if there are other registrars besides Register.com that does this. Is this a trend, or just a stupid business move by Register.com?

I ask because I am thinking of doing a longterm project that requires forwarding many domains. If GoDaddy ever decided to do this as well, the cost would be too much for a sucessful project.

Thanks!

I think Domainsite does something similar to this for "basic" domain registrations for an extra $5. Or if you register a "full-featured" domain in the first place it's $7.99. If you have a hosting account it's easy to point the name servers to that and forward it yourself, but I agree $50 is a bit steep for that service.

That's ridiculous.

I'll provide 301 or 302 redirect from my dedicated server for any NamePros member free of charge (no redirecting to spammy sites or porn :) ). PM me if interested.

I believe thats registrar transfer in for $14.95.

Found this in their FAQ,
"How much does a Transfer of Account Holder (Registrant) cost?

Answer
Currently there is no fee for a transfer of the Account Holder (Registrant) when it is done online."

It's about time. That $200 ownership transfer fee was (almost) the biggest ripoff in the business.

k misunderstood your question, i guess they were stuck in the early 90s prices. But i suppose corporations still paid it, like networksolutions and their crazy prices

that's retarded. IMHO.

reminds me of a little US automaker who used to ignore their customers AND their competitors until one day they woke up BROKE and had no more customers! LOL

now it's too late! LOL again

arrogance will catch up to you - eventually. LOL again
IMHO - again :)

happy new year to all!
