would like thoughts on registering numbers such as birthdays...for example 5363.com (for May 3, 1963) or 91744 (these are taken). In general is it a bad idea to do that?..say you wanted to do a site for your birthday calender yr. like a What happed on this day in time kind of thing..sort of like the card/booklets they sell. I checked on a a few dates (my sons birthday for one) and these numbers were available..sort of tempting to reg them...would you? Or would they be marketable if you wanted to sell them? Note: No overture results for the ones I checked on that were available though.

The reason why domain names were invented in the first place was to replace numbers which are harder to remember than words. Of course, one could argue that numbers mean something in certain cultures, like 666.com or 888.com, or that numbers are easier to type in for those with keyboards in hindi, chinese or arabic et el.

Generally, numbers for URLs are a bad idea, imo. Might as well give someone your website IP address instead.

I like number domains.

They seem a lot shorter.

I don't think it is a good idea if you are reselling them. Not that valuable domains :imho:

Series of numbers are hard to remember, so they won't have much value, especially if there are 4 or 5 of them.

OK..That's basically what I wanted to know...overall opinions..I doubt I will reg the ones that I checked that are available...unless I do my sons b-day numbers...could set a page up for him as a b-day present or something.. :) not with intent to get high traffic or sales....just to have. Thanks

You have to make the numbers meaningful so that your visitors can remember it...
to make it profitable

I doubt while you can profit from it while u just randomly reg some birthday numbers.
