.tv Regging more fun than Renewing

Yep - have worked out that regging is one hell of a lot more fun than renewing. Even purchasing domains off fellow domainers at ridiculous prices is slightly hilarious - but there is absolutely no fun in renewing.

I look at some names and actually think, "what was i thinking?". I take time out; go out; go to lunch; do all sorts of things but (and this is the kicker), I still have no answer to what I must have been thinking when I supposedly regged great names 12 months ago.

I haven't seen a thread on this topic before, so may be I'm just the odd guy out here.

i regd 1234567890.tv and 0987654321.tv when i was drunk.....mind u i get quite few hits.......i do get a few emals asking why did i reg these but they must be typing this combo in to know there have been regd

but these must be the best drunk regd out there .

LOL This is true. The "obligation" to pay for renewals is less fun than the excitement of being able to get and available name.

Thing is, even on a whim you're likely better off regging some names you'll regret than regretting to reg names you later realize you like that someone else snagged after you.

Of course, it's a lot more fun regging a new name that's gonna make you money than renewing a name that you already own. Adding a new name to your collection is always exciting!

Let me say this, I fully understand you. It is so hard to maintain a large portfolio and still continue to buy more. I started domaining in 2005, I HAND registered about 450 .Coms... DUH do you really think there are 450 "good" .com names avaialble to register freely? Umm the answer is NO, LOL! I found that out the hard way!

I had to literally let hundreds of names expire

Luckily by the time I got to .TV I had already felt the pain of letting hard researched names go at next to nothing or let them expire. When I got into .TV my decision making skill had increased just enouhg to keep me out of hot water. To date I have only let about 7 .Tvs expire, though I am sure that will increase once those $10 godaddy special names start to expire.... I am sure that will be a huge mess for everyone here.

I would have a smile all over my face if I was renewing VIDEOS.TV at reg fee..............check out Argos's photo - he's killing himself laughing!!! I bet he had just finished renewing VIDEOS.TV........

I agree. Sometimes I think "If they don't sell in a year, they ain't worth renewing". Of course, with some names, it's right after a year I get a bid!!

100% right on the $ Mark! Renewals are tedious at best..

New stuff is always fun and exciting, but over time, it wears off a bit.

PS Videos.tv is a non premium LOL - what !?! Amazing. Surely one of the top names to begin with and the fact its non premium sends it Above & Beyond. Way to go Argos!

Yes, way more fun.

Poking around, finding a name available, or scoring one in the aftermarket for cheap with a dev plan in mind.

Renewal sucks because it is a reminder that your plans failed and you either didn't sell or didn't develop and you are a schmuck because of that. (I am not a fan of failure)

i chose address over hard , thin .......(premium) it was fun at the time , but i wont be renewing the name ...... and oh yeah , finding a name is way more fun !!!!! i keep telling myself ... you have done the work ......now just enjoy it , but always something in the pipeline , i still hope to develop this year , at least one anyway ??????

To me registering a name that you have no plans to develop is like investing or gambling. Only spend what you can afford and kiss the money goodbye. Just like with investments and gambling, you may get lucky, well that's part of the game. Out of the 800 .tv names I registerd, I knew off the bat I would not renew 200 of them. The only question was which would be in the 200.

Also, as I looked (we all looked) at the .tv market I felt that it would be a safe bet since I thought the extension would start to take off and continue over the next couple of years and if it did, then I would do extremely well, which I have. I must admit though that when reging names about 400 of them I did and do have plans to develop through Qoof.com.

nobody likes it when it comes to renewals..esp when u have a big portfolio..
everymth u will have to renew domains unless u consolidate them all
even renewing .tv at $33 at godaddy alone is killing me softly.. wish there is a 19.90 code since they offer first year at 19.90 but sigh

wow, those are great drunk regs. very funny. was the alcohol-fueled thought process that they would be developed?!

i started with this 3 weeks ago and with the knowledge ive gained i can say 1/3 of my domains i wouldnt reg today and im not intending to renew them when the time comes... but im still amazed i got my hands on some really good ones that i will develop.
