I know people don't like dashes, but for my company needs I needed a new name, I thought this would work out well (and it's .com), curious on opinions. My goal was to be able to find a name that could easily be brandable and what better then a color? Blue and Green Dashed versions were already taken by other people.

Opinions?

Well, as you stated in your buying thread, it should be easy to convey verbally. Anything with a dash confuses many people. Many don't know the difference between a dash and a slash. Secondly, "red" software makes me think of Russia. Probably not the image you're trying to convey? Red also conveys "danger" or "stop". Just food for thought.

Doesn't mean I will stick with this, but got it just in case since it's a good candidate. And look at penny-arcade.com it did okay =), as long as I have good content I think it will be okay. On the plus side only cost me $5 as opposed to the $800 I was willing to spend. I'm still looking for other names though of course.

As for the dash and slash, you can't type a slash in a domain name anyways, they would get an error, and most the links to my site will be from the software it's self to the site, I think when they mis-type it they will know it's the wrong content and go the site it's self.

As for Russia or china, I don't think people think of that as much anymore, and I can put an American Flag in the design =P.

Red also convey's according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red

Courage and Sacrifice. Popular in China for this.

I think you're trying to convince yourself for the sake of saving some money. Why put your effort and promotional funds on a domain that is problematic? Another factor to consider is that you'll lose a significant percentage of your potential visitors to redsoftware.com. It doesn't make sense to build on a weak foundation. I would make an offer to the owners of redsoftware.com (it's currently a parked page).

I did and they wanted $3000, it's too much money for me to afford at the moment, I can only go $800. I'll admit I'm very frustrated trying to get a good domain that is affordable, especially with so many users on here trying to sell me junk till I'm broke :(, I think you can see my dilemma, instead of paying $200 for junk I'd rather spend $5. I can always stick with this name, and if it does well buy redsoftware later.

Thanks for comments, most my friends like it so far.

As for 'stop', I could say your 'one stop for software!'

I do understand your dilemma, but I also think it's a huge mistake to put a lot of time and effort into building on a domain that will cause you to lose business. Keep looking, keep making offers in your price range. It'll come :)

We'll see, I doubt it though :(. Most people on here just want a quick buck off sorry to say 'crappy names'. So I don't know, ::-Prays to the domain gods-::

If you feel that way, look elsewhere. There are millions of names being sold in your price range on Sedo and Afternic.

Yeah, that is even worse :(. I especially won't find a domain in my price range on there. While the names are good there, it's too expensive. That is where most of the 'high price till you die' domain squatters are =(. I don't know like I said, I'll just have to pray to the domain gods and stick with what I have for now.

I won't be investing any money into it for a month or so, so I got till then I guess to change my mind.
