Hello all! I am a newbie at domain name sells. Here is a list of my domain names:

I have most of these listed on Godaddy with 50000 minimum offer. Is this realistic? I have seen some odd domain names sell for over this amount. I figured that I would at least test my luck in domain sells. My goals are to (1) make enought to pay of my $95,000 worth of student loans and purchase a home in a decent neighborhood ( 120,000).

I am not computer savvy and I decided to try this whole thing out on a hunch. Based on your experience and expertise, do I have the potential to reach my goals? :wave:

But you better find a good job with your degree cause these names will not get you debt free

Thanks for the quick replies. This is not something that I seem to have a knack for. I guess I will cross my fingers and hope that I can make a decent profit. What are your thoughts on the godaddy appraisal? Most of my domains are valued 300+, and yet I see domains that have bids over 50000 that are appraised at under $100.

Get some not that great domains and put them up with a start bid of $50 grand?

Must be like those people on another forum who think if they post a crap domain for one million dollars, that someone will buy.

I am sorry, but not of these look better than reg fee.

Now if you are serious about selling them?
Drop that 50 grand down to nothing and see what the market will really pay for them.

Otherwise, 6 months from now you will still have these domains.

No it's not realistic at all. I don't see why anybody would want to buy any of your domains, rather than go register something else.
I don't think your little portfolio is even worth what you spent in registration fees, sorry.
Everybody can register some available domain and list it for sale - and hope for the best.
Selling domains is another matter.

Work your way up the job ladder.

Rent a room with a college buddy

See if you can return your domains.

A reason you see that where low value or worse names manage to sell for big bucks including a fairly good percentage of sold names appearing in dnjournal.com is because domain sales is little more than a numbers game, combined with good luck (with some exceptions to that based on the attributes of course like traffic, revenue, exact match keyword popularity, links, etc).

Since there are millions of names for sale it means every day a very small percentage will sell for far in excess of obvious value regardless of how semi-worthless they may seem to domainers.

That's because someone specifically wants or needs a name for whatever reason such as starting a business which uses that name or a product/service, brand protection, etc and is prepared to pay a very high price for the domain,

For example, a small portfolio of good quality keyword targeted names will likely get fewer total sales vs a large portfolio of overall lesser quality domains. That's due to luck and the numbers game.

As a teacher, there is not much room for advancing upward along the job ladder. Of course, I knew that going into the field. People do not choose a career in teaching for the money. The loans are a combination of my husband and my student debt.

Out of curiosity what makes a domain name valuable. I have noticed that one-word domains are gone. I tried to compile a list of domains that are more general than not. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NP.
One word .com may not necessary means more value than two words .coms. There is many factors, as example commercial use, search volume, brand ability, length, etc. Go thru the forum(s) and learn before spend / waste more money.

I would do one of the following, all of which are working pretty well for me,
Either
Look for names that are in demand - lll.coms, nnnn.coms or cvcv.coms get familiar with where to buy these and where to sell them
Or
Look for names that a end user would want/need, i use freshdrop to find end user names on namejet
Or
Look for names that have parking revenue, i use freshdrop to find these as well

You are a teacher? You will make much more at teaching than trying to make instant millions from domains.
Diminishmydebt.com only one I consider worth more than what you paid for it.
and then it is only worth maybe (BIG Maybe) $50
You mentioned that one word domains have gone. Well sorry to tell you this, but the days of buying a domain for $10 1 day and reselling on sedo for $50K with in a week are LONG GONE also.
That ship sailed years ago.
Domaining is like the lottery , you often hear of the BIG dollar wins, but for every win there are hundreds of thousands of players that lost their money that week.

If an end user fell in love with the brandable name Nabpo.com they might be willing to pay a few hundred or more for it. You may have it for a long time before you can sell it though.
