Raffle a Domain name?

Anyone ever tried or heard of holding a raffle for a name?

Lets say you have a name that you think is worth 1K, so you sell 40 tickets at 25 bucks a piece. Someone get a great name for only 40 bucks

Would this work? Legal? Has it been done?

Depends on where you are at and where the ticket holders are.

Certain US states do not allow gambling, and giving away a prize with monetary value is considered gambling.
