Quick question on google API Maps

ok, i plan on setting up a site, where people (anyone) can add something on the map for free, such as there location in a pionter that goes on the map, we all seen them, so can this be done, by anyone doing it? and how would i got about it.

I would use yahoo maps (http://developer.yahoo.com/maps/) it's a lot easyer to use but if your dead set on using google maps. Try WebService::GoogleMaps it's a perl module to simplify the API interface
