I am sure this topic has been covered, but I wanted to try and get some more opinions. I am looking for an alternative to just parking a domain and have come up with 3 options: WhyPark, 1Plus and developing my own "minisite".

The problem with developing my own minisite is due to time constraints so I am leaning more towards using someone like a WhyPark or 1Plus.

So here are my questions ...

1. Is WhyPark or 1Plus better in your opinion and why?

2. Can these sites from a WhyPark or 1Plus actually get indexed in a search engine unlike a parked domain site?

Thanks in advance.

I use both of these services.

I personally think it depends on the domain name that you have as to which service works best.

WhyPark is Article based, although you can add your own custom pages and then effectively you have the ability to publish your own content.
http://www.safecam.info/ is using Why Park and I have added a custom page that contains an index of Most of the UK Speed (Safety) Camera Partnerships.
WhyPark does get indexed - it's a shame that the articles are named with a number as this doesn't help particularly well with SEO.
e.g. http://www.safecam.info/article.cfm/id/147573 - be much better if it was:
http://www.safecam.info/Radar-Detectors-Say-Goodbye-To-Costly-Speeding-Tickets

1plus.net offers a variety of parking types: News, Blog and Park and these can be customised quite heavily. Not sure if the pages get indexed or not.
http://www.airways.org.uk/ is an example of a site I recently moved from WhyPark to 1plus.net
The reason being down to the quality of the articles and really the relevence of why someone would want to read the stuff as it was a bit of a mismatch. So I thought I would moved it to a typical parking page. Of course I now need to look at driving traffic as .org.uk is not that well known so won't get much natural type in.

Anyone know a good approach to doing SEO on parked pages?

I've never tried 1plus but have been using whypark and found the results better than the ones I had parked at other domain parking services. Whypark is a step-up from standard domain parking as you get keyword-targeted content, can add various ad network & affiliate programs, customize pages, get indexed by search engines, market as you choose and receive 100% of ad revenue.

It also has other features & benefits, One particular one is text-link ads. I recently put online my site www.PetEcho.com It was an expired name with a PR3 ranking so I decided to develop it into a site and link with my site hosted with whypark: www.petshealthtips.com The idea has worked out well because since I put it online it has been generating very good traffic and some of that is now going to my whypark site, as I put a link to there, and then put a text ad on my whypark site to link back. This way each site can send traffic to the other. Text-link ads are a great no-cost way to promote your other sites which can help to generate additional traffic especially to the ones that need it the most. Now I'm not a pro at creating websites from scratch, as this was my very first attempt that took much time to create & needs more fine-tuning as I learn more, whereas the whypark sites have a much easier set-up and can get them up & going right away.

There are 3 ways at looking at it: regular domain parking (no-setup costs, sharing of ad revenue controlled by the domain parking service), whypark (one-time cost at $1 per domain, 100% ad revenue from the ad network or affiliate programs you choose, can customize & add additional pages), or build from scratch (a little tech knowledge required, time-consuming, control over content, monthly hosting fees) Whichever fits your budget, time and gives the most most benefit is the one to choose.

PetEcho.com Google ads?

.

I have been following the Whypark / 1Plus thread with interest, so I checked out your PetEcho.com website. In spite of the ovious "Pet" name and pet goods shown for sale, all the Google ads I see on the site are related to book publishing, nothing to do with pets. Is PetEcho a Whypark site, and do you actually get anyone clicking on a book publishing ad when they've come to a pet site? Please explain! Thanks, CanBrit

I've just checked the home page and ads relating to pets are coming up. Can you refresh your page to see if pet ads are showing up. I'm not sure why is showing book publishing as shouldn't be, maybe there is a glitch I need to fix. Yes I have been getting clicks on my ads and www.PetEcho.com is not a WhyPark site.

Pet ads now showing

Hi, I've checked again and pet related ads are now showing up. When I had checked previously, I tried several times and refreshed while I was doing it as the choice of ads seemed so odd. Mysterious are the ways of Google...

AK:

Did I read your post right that you designed Petecho yourself?

Also, is this type of site with the Ebay products a revenue producer?
And how do the results of this type of site compare to the standard
Whypark sites?

Thanks AK.

Yes I did put together www.petecho.com myself which took a lot of time and frustration. I had a credit with my domain registrar that I could use for free hosting of the site for a limited number of pages. The only condition is their banner has to be on the site. It's still early yet to evaluate the ebay products because I've only had it online since Thursday night but have been generating traffic and many visitors are clicking on the ebay products. I am still experimenting as to the direction it may go but so far happy with the initial results. And by linking it to my whypark site www.petshealthtips.com, helps both.

Since I moved many of my sites over to WhyPark, I'm seeing better results than when I was using standard domain parking. Of course I still have to promote them as I find different ways without added costs. WhyPark also provides helpful information to get you going.

You can also customize pages with WhyPark and use them as landing pages for affiliate programs. I will try that next.

Back to canbrit's earlier question about the google ads, I found out from my domain registrar that because of their ad banner it could conflict at times with my adsense ads. So that means either I have to accept as is, move elsewhere or upgrade to paid hosting. So really nothing is ever free and therefore WhyPark looks even better as is reasonably priced with their one-time fee considering the flexibility and benefits you receive.

AK:

Are you generating any revenue from that Amazon affiliate program
you have with Petecho?

I really like the strategy you are employing. I guess that is an added
benefit to the WhyPark program . . . allows you to do more things
on the marketing end (although, I guess petecho is not a whypark
site).

Keep us posted on how these two sites are performing for you. I wish
you much success.

It's still early to evaluate the affiliate programs. Right now my main goal is using no-cost marketing methods to generate traffic to these sites. Text ads work great as you can promote various related WhyPark hosted sites which achieves traffic to the ones that need it the most and that means more time spent on your sites to view your ad & affiliate programs. I recently started a blog and my main topic right now is WhyPark. Blogging is another no-cost way to generate traffic to your sites.

Whypark surely are using some script to auto-generare the pages.

Can someone not replicate a similar script - any publicly available?

I also use both...

Whypark gets indexed, but you need to pay some money to get started.

It also lets you create links to your other sites, and that helps your overall search engine ranking.

check this example:

D14:

I like your school loan site . . . content that relates directly to the theme of
the site and targeted google adwords. The visitor is coming to your site
looking for school loan info and that is exactly what he or she is getting.

Two questions for you. First of all, how are these sites performing from a
revenue standpoint? And second, as more content is being added to the
sites, are your traffic and revenue numbers increasing?

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

The click thru is low.... its higher on the parked pages... but I get about $1 per click and directs traffic to my other sites also with the links...

I think you can 't beat the flexibility Whypark offers and the different ways to generate income from each site, not only from adsense but various targeted affiliate programs. And when you think about it if it was only adsense income you were mainly looking at, setting a goal of $1 per day from each site could mean a potential of $50 per day for 50 sites or $100 per day for 100 sites. I've had clicks that have paid over $1 per click. The sites that are doing better can compensate the ones that are not, but with extra effort in promoting can certainly help achieve the goal.

AK:

Let me ask, are you averaging $1 per site per day at WhyPark? In addition,
are these WhyPark sites websites that have been built from scratch or
have they been built on expired domains with backlinks?

I have several sites at 1Plus that I plan on moving to WhyPark very soon.
Many of them I am going to eventually build myself. However, in the
meantime I just feel that WhyPark will be a better fit than 1Plus . . .
especially when you consider that I am going to turn many of these
sites into customized content sites.

When it comes to generating traffic along with Adsense revenue, "Content"
certainly is "King." And that is what has me intrigued about WhyPark. I like
the fact that I can add my own original content.

What is frustrating about 1Plus is the content feed that I get on my sites.
Half the time the content adds absolutely no value to the site. For example,
I have a site dedicated to Plasma TV's. People coming to the site want
relevant information of the subject of Plasma TV's . . . and half the time the
content on the site has absolutely nothing to do with Plasma TV's.

The question that I continually ask myself whenever I am building a site is:
"If I was searching the web and I came to this site, is this something that
I would bookmark and come back to in the future?" In other words, does
this site have value? Does it provide information that will give the visitor
a compelling reason to return . . . and perhaps even opt-in to an email
list to receive additional information?

Based on the research I have done over the past couple of weeks, it
certainly appears that WhyPark sites are scoring much higher on the "value"
scale than 1Plus.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 1Plus concept . . . and I think it does have
some good potential. But unfortunately, half the time the content on their
sites is not relevant and has no value to the visitor. If they can fix this
content problem, I think 1Plus has some great potential.

But in the meantime, I am going to move some non-performing 1Plus sites
over to WhyPark . . . add some unique content . . . and see if I can get
these little devils to start producing some revenue. I'll keep you posted of
the results.

Sorry you feel 1plus is underperforming for you Jon. I would say give it time and play with your content feeding keywords.

We actually have the very same database of articles that similar sites are using but chose not to offer it in a similar style to whats currently available on a fee basis elsewhere because of the potential for the domains being banned or users having their adsense a/c taken away.

Anyway, seems like they are currently flying under the radar at the moment, so maybe we'll fire up the article skin and let users have it. Obviously, and as ever, it will be cost free.

Jon, all I can say is that I am generating income from my WhyPark sites which is increasing and am satisfied with the results so far. The ones that are doing well compensate the ones that are not. And the ones that are not doing as well is just because I haven't concentrated enough time to them to increase traffic and/or need to fine tune them some more. Usually you do tend to target your winners first. And majority of my WhyPark sites are from scratch meaning they were new domain names not expired ones so that in itself can be an uphill battle especially when using standard domain parking. Since I made my initial investment, I've more than recovered it and now concentrate on finding no-cost ways to generate traffic to the sites. I'll be updating my blog about it.

Badger, I tend to disagree about "potential for...users having their adsense a/c taken away" because not only I have seen so many adsense sites with very little content (still around) but I opened my adsense account using one of my WhyPark sites so they certainly reviewed it and were okay with it.

I think WhyPark is a step up before building your own site so a better alternative for storing your domain names.

Hi,

If I was making a dollar a day per site I would be getting rich very quickly.

I have had an increase in page views on my whypark and 1plus sites, but very low click thru...

It's always good to set a goal. The $1 per day per site is a low enough amount to be achievable. And certainly to achieve any goal you have to work at it....that means finding ways to increase traffic to your sites.
