Should a site put lots of relevant links to other sites to increase page rank? I thought that other links will send people away from your content, distract them for the main information of the site?
Assuming then that links are good for my type of site, is it best to have a weekly list of links? I was think of a menu with direct external links, would menu links be better than a page full of links? Does it matter it the link is the same or new page? I guess it better in the same page. If I'm the little guy in say surf boards, should i have links to the highest ranked surf board site on the web? What about links that are in my site but not directly accessible to the public? Does goo sniff this practice out? Is this generally what people do to drive search engine to their site:ghost:?

Links out with no links back in do not help you. Ideally you want links coming in to your site from relevant websites.

Hello,

Remember that links linking out to other websites will cause PageRank leak (i.e. decrease Pagerank) of your webpages.

You have to ask for other websites put some links pointing to your webpages in order to increase Pagerank.

Best regards

Hi,

In my experiences with Links.com links to external web sites have little affect one way or another on Page Rank. Page Rank is a way for Google to measure authority and it does help tremendously to have high PR sites link to your website, deliver relevant traffic to your site, and have that traffic linger on your site. This seems to be key nowadays.

PR does NOT help you in the search results, so it WON'T deliver you any traffic

Sorry, I did not explain myself well. It helps but in a completely different way than most webmasters (including SEO experts) understand it.

Traffic U]originating[/U] from a high PR site (i.e. an authoritative) site is considered more reliable traffic by Google. This traffic is measured and if it lingers on the site it is considered to be a positive sign by Google's measurement algorithms. People who are designing websites for SEO have to completely throw out all that they have read in the past. Google's new algorithms are much more traffic oriented and much less link oriented.

Links

Outbound links aren't worth absolutely zero if they contribute to the content of your website, but keep in mind, linking to a bunch of sites and not receiving any back links can also be detrimental. Make sure you know who you're linking to as well, links to "bad neighborhoods" can lump you in with the spammers in googles eyes.

You get more pagerank from links coming to your site. Links leaving your site will lower your pagerank (it flows out from your site)! Case closed. :)
I have seen some people say that adding outbound links can help you, but I have never seen this proven. If it was this simple, couldn't I just add a link to google on my homepage and then rank for whatever I wanted to? :)

Correction, you must link your site to the quality websites to increase Page Rank not putting links to your site page.
