Hi, guys

I found a domain which current status is redemptionPeriod
The domain is regged at Godaddy.

When I search the domain at GD, it shows an option to backorder it for $18.99, I backordered it and it shows in my godaddy products list. When I checked the name again, the backorder option is not available, and it shows the domain name "Not Available". Seems no one could backorder it again at godaddy.

My question is: will this domain be mine unless the ex-owner pay high $ to get it back? is it possible other registrar can catch this name after its dropping (the name is with Godaddy atm)?

Thank you in advance :)

Yes. If there are bids for the domain on other drop catchers such as SnapNames and Pool, your chances of getting it are very slim.

Thank you for the prompt answer!

Sigh ... I thought this name will be dropped to my pocket ... from godaddy to godaddy ...

I have a very different take on it. How long since it expired? You should read this threat http://www.namepros.com/domain-name...ders-tdnam-auction-gds.html?highlight=godaddy which explains how expiry>deletion works at GoDaddy. Then ask yourself, where are you in this cycle.

Check out www.tdnam.com to see if your domain is listed there. Is your backorder shown on the domain? Then you're in the auction. If the domain is listed but your backorder not, then my advice would be to bid on it at the auction and save your backorder for another domain.

Read that thread carefully to understand your position, exactly.

Ok, lets start over. Unfortunately asianinvasion information is not accurate.

Its going to depend how far along into expiration the domain name is. If the domain was regged Before Sept 19th of whatever year - it will have already gone through TDNAM and the auction would have ended. If it was regged between Sept19th and Sept 29th - it theoretically will be at Auction on TDNAM.

If you placed a backorder before it went to auction. Your backorder will place the first bid on the domain name.... If your backorder was placed During the auction, then if no one bids on the domain name, the backorder will capture the domain name when redemption period is over.

(This is all assuming that the owner doesnt redeem, because he still has the option to do so at this point in time)

If you placed a backorder after the auction ended, and somebody else won the domain name, your backorder is essentially worthless. There is a little gray area if you placed the backorder after the auction and no one won the domain name.... Godaddy could not give me a definitive answer in regards to this.

So... its going to be relative to when the domain expired and when you placed the backorder...

Yes, the mere fact that he mentioned that the domain is currently is redemptionPeriod means that:

- There were no GoDaddy backorders on the domain at the time.
- The auction on TDNAM had already closed without bidders.

I must correct my previous posting. Asian is correct. I called up Godaddy this evening to get some clarification. As it turns out. Even though it shows Redemption on their side - the whois wont reflect the Redemption until well after the auction takes place. Basically, if the domain is in Redemption - it went through the auction without bids.

Your backorder is essentially worthless at this point. More than likely a Taster or even the larger auction houses like Snap, will grab the domain name, and try to auction it off. In the event that fails - the domain will be released.

My apologies to Asian, who was 100% correct!

most backorders on godaddy are just a waste of your money. better try to get them otherwise.

The domain expired in 16th Aug, 2007, and after backordering, the name shows in my godaddy products list with status Public Backorder Active

Ok, thank you guys for the kind help. It makes things much clear. I snooze, I lose. :'(

New question is: where is the best place to catch the domain that godaddy dropped?

Regards
