Can anyone tell me something more about .name? I have never paid attention to that extension, so i dont know anything about it ;)
How they are selling? Does some country.name or city.name have any value, and if so, what value range would that be? :gl:

I thought .name was disbanded because it was pretty much useless in the long run....

Generally no value, just for your collection. Search for the past sales. Even generic or geo .names are reg fee or less.

I have some good .names though... :(

no value at all, unless it is sex.name, pizza.name etc

Not only is .name totally worthless, it's also one of the ugliest extensions, along with .coop...

Well, I can't say its totally worthless....but yeah, its not that appealing an extension...if you're using it for personal use...then, why not...a very interesting idea would be <name>ismy.name...

ex: johnismy.name :D

I agree.....and i think it would be very simpatic to have your name dot name:) But i was wondering something else, i am interested in commercial value of this extension with some city or country name. What value could it achive, in regular market, not just for an end user:)

Well, i have never planned to register any .name, but recently i saw BuenosAires.name available, and i know that once when i search something all BuenosAires extensions at main page at Dynadot was taken, and then one day i saw .name is available. I tried to register it few days after, and it was taken. Then i recently found one country available in .name extension, and also one big city which has 11 millions citizens and about 261 million results in Google also in .name extension, and also i know for it that recently all extension of that city name at Dynadot main page was taken. So i couldnt help myself and i registered them:)

I was about to sell one (i can't disclose the name) for $1,300.
it went to escrow, the buyer deposited the money, then when he tried to request a domain transfer through his registrar 1&1 he got a big warning saying:

"To register a .name top level domain (TLD) it must come from a person's name. This could be the legal name of a person but also a name the person is commonly known by, for example a nickname, pseudonym, alias, or stage name. This name must belong to an individual (like yourself) or a fictitious character to which you have rights, such as a copyright, a trademark, or similar. It may begin or end with numbers to set it apart from other people with the same name."
http://www.icann.org/en/tlds/agreements/name/registry-agmt-appl-8aug03.htm#fn1

he freaked out and he asked to cancel the transaction.
for good business sake I accepted :(

so unless it's for dev (personal use), i think they are pretty useless as an investment.

Worthless ext. I mean WORTHLESS! I couldn't sell CDE.name for $1 (seriously) so I let it drop.

.biz has a similar (opposite) restriction, it must be used for business but the rule has never been enforced. As for .name not sure if they would really bother to enforce their own rules (not in their interest after all).

actually the concern is not the registry. it's if someone comes and challenges you for the domain. that time the registrar is required to revoke your registration as per ICANN rules :'(
