I was looking through Name Jet's pending delete domains and there is one I like. As I understand it I can bid on it for $69, but other people cold raise the price?

The whois for the domain shows GoDaddy. Why don't I just back order it from Godaddy for a lot less than the $69? Wouldn't GoDaddy be able to grab it first?

If there's the slightest bit of interest (meaning, multiple backorders) in this domain, the chances of GoDaddy capturing it are slim. If the name is important to you, it's worth back-ordering it at least at NameJet and SnapNames.

One thing to consider is, if your backorder at NJ or SN is unsuccessful, you've lost nothing; if it's unsuccessful at GD, you're still in it for the $20.99 or so.

GoDaddy are most unlikely to catch the name unless nobody else is interested in picking it up. So I would only use GoDaddy if you are fairly sure nobody else would be interested in picking it up. Better to use Pheenix.com cost, $18.95. But you should keep watching the pending delete auctions at SnapNames, NameJet, Dynadot in case you see other backorders on the domain. If you see backorders, you should then backorder it everywhere.

How would I fair with SnapNames, NameJet, Dyandot VS the fancy software people sell here?

You'd fare better with the big boys SnapNames or NameJet. The 2nd tier I'd say was DropCatch and Pheenix. But we can argue about that. If it's not backordered anywhere else, I would backorder it at Pheenix. They've captured most of my drop-catches where there were no backorders anywhere else.

The reason for saying this is that it's better to hit the registries up using the multiple server power these companies have, rather than the limited server power of one registrar's API.
