Question about directories

I have a business directory contacting me about my store website. They want to know if I want my site included in it.

"There is no fee for this submission. Inclusion in the Business Search Directory may cause you to be listed in other Business Directories, as it will be accessed by Google, Yahoo, and MSN."

What I want to know is, can doing so effect my search visitors count in a negative way. Or is this a good thing to have a shopping cart website included in their business directory?

Thanks for your help,

Roderick

I don't think it will hurt if it is "really" free.

Few things in life are free ...

I'll wager they will share your information with other aggressive marketers, if you respond to their email / phone call...

Even if they don't do that, it's highly likely they try to "upsell" you to buy a featured listing or whatever eventually.

Anyways, how many people use obscure "business directories" like the ones advertised via emails (spam) / cold calls? ... most people I know use the major search engines to find what they need.

I just had no clue as I am not a developer. I have read that placement in directories can benefit a site. Then too I have read that it is not always a good thing to do and your site may do poorly after placement in directories?

I don't think I will go for it with the information you guys gave me.

I have a shopping cart with Godaddy and many customers come in and buy my greenhouse plants from search engine traffic. I don't want anything to disrupt this.

many thanks all
