Question about a domain name I purchased

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advise on my situation. I'll give you the little backstory here:

I purchased the .com and .net for the same name. The problem is NOW that I own them I'm not sure about the legality of the situation.

I won't say the domain name here, but I will say it is the EXACT name of a video game that was just announced (newest in a big name game series). I saw the domain names were not taken, figuring a domain name shark would scoop it up anyway, I registered them.

I really didn't have any plans for the domain, I was thinking about using it to create a fan website for the game (I've had numerous ones in the past), but in the end I decided I just wouldn't have the time to make the website decent, so I don't have anything up there at the moment.

The video game company has not contacted me in regards to getting the domain, however if they did, I'd be happy to hand both them over at $8 each (which is the price I paid).

Failing that they contact me, can I go sell it on a domain name selling site? Is that legal for me to do that if the game company isn't asking for the domain? Will domain name selling sites allow me to sell it?

I've never sold a domain before, so I'm new to this. I don't want to do anything bad or illegal. I am however a student and would love to get some extra cash to help me out of some debt... So whats the go? Can I try to sell it? Or is the "right thing to do" to contact the game company and offer the domain to them?

If its a big name game, they may want them... regardless of how they attempt to get them.

IMHO since you don't have intentions to develop them into fan sites, DEFINITELY don't park them or try to make money off them. You might get away with selling them, but you are still at risk if they attempt to udrp or sue. The buyer is potentially liable as well if he doesn't use them appropriately.

If they were mine, I would either dev them into fan sites or try to contact the company and see if they want them for the reg fee, that you had plans to develop as fan sites, but no longer have the time, and wanted to know if they wanted them.

Just my opinion.

totally agree with flamewalker here,

since you regged them to stop a domain shark getting them its kind of bad faith,

you need to develop these sites into something, do not park them,

since you have the names, try and get something on the sites, or drop them, but dont park them

To prevent a domain shark to get the domains, you become a domain shark good job.

Seriously just put a simple front page up, with only these text (or similar):
"This is a fan site for (thenameofthegame). It is still under development. I can be contacted at (youremail)"

But as flamewalker and evertonian7uk wrote, please DO NOT park them, just put a simple page up with only the words, nothing else.

Personally, I would stay away from adding contact information. If you are developing a site, why would you want people to contact you? The reason I would think someone puts up contact information is to sell the domain (yea, I'm cynical, but usually my instincts are right on ). What may be better is put up a forum, this shows you are actively dtrying to develope the site and creating communication with other "fans".
