Yes, the whois protection and also the fact that Chinese have to have a US based address to own .US domains. Plus, you'd ask yourself why would Chinese want a .US domain? Then, you ask yourself if not selling to the Chinese what percentage of us businesses use .US rather than .com?
Side Note: The only .US I buy and sell are 3L .us and they have limited demand mid-xx compared to the fact 3L .com go for over $30,000 that is a major difference.
