A: as long as we let it rule.

ok here we go:

OF COURSE guys like rick latona and frank schilling are going to badmouth all the new extensions... because they have all the .coms etc... and they are on the top of the cake... now when other people have a lot of top domains in new extensions... They FEEL like HEY WHATS WRONG WITH YOU .COMS IS THE ONLY THAT MATTER! (we have all of em) DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE, WE ARE STILL THE KINGS AND NONE OF THESE NEW SHIT EXTENSIONS ARE GONNA THREATEN OUR RULE!!! WE ARE THE DOMAIN KINGS GOD DAMN IT! DONT BUY OTHER EXTENSIONS, .COM IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS, NOW KNEEL!

i just think they are afraid that their .coms gonna have competition and loose value. Because THEY are the only one who is going to loose if new extensions get as widely accepted as .COM, cause then their .COMS aint worth as much, they dont have MONOPOLY on the for now "best" extension anymore, cause when there is new extensions that gets rated almost as good or as good as a .com their portfolio value will drop with like 50-60% probably even more.... And of course they dont want that. THEY ARE AFRAID of new extensions cause it could kick them of their thrones of gold!!!

i actually beleive the .coms is gonna drop in value in the future, but all the big domainers always says its gonna be mooore valueable(cause when they say it everyone will think it and then it is so, they are in a way setting the price). Of course it will always be good value of .coms but .com will have a lot more competition in the future. And thats probably the big premium .COM owners worst nightmare!

I mean the .com'ers must Keep the FLAG HIGH to rule, i mean our generation tell the next generation that .com is best, and they in there turn say it to the next generation etc... What if we said .NET is better, theoritically, what if every big domainer says that .NET is best, then the word spreads that .Net is actually better then .COM... then new websites will pop up with .NET instead of .com and .NET will eventually take over or be as valuable as a .com.

IM RANTING LIKE A CRAZY BUM!... but its late and this stuff just popped up in my head. But i think its worth thinking over!

thanks for me and good night!

Frankie, I can understand what you're saying. Nobody wants to see their fat goose that lays the "golden egg" turn into a scrawny, little chicken (heck, I wouldn't either). But change is inevitable, and I don't think alot of domainers like change. Look at how many cried like babies over a background color change

And yes, don't get me wrong, I can see that .com has a proven track record of being wonderful, great, profitable, etc. I've been studying this forum, NameBio, Sedo and DNJ like my life depended on it for the last few months, and I sincerely appreciate the knowledge that can be gained, but I refuse to let myself get sucked into the mindset that the world will live and die by .com forever and ever. And I refuse to believe that .com prices will keep going up and up into the stratosphere of absurdity, $500 million for a domain?? A billion dollars for a domain?? No way, EVERYTHING levels off sooner or later, domain names are no exception.

But, take what I say with a grain of salt, afterall, I am just a newbie and we all know newbies are dumb as stumps, right? No common sense, no basic reading skills, no concept of proper English...blah, blah, blah. But in the mass of today's newbies there just might be the next Frank Schilling, or Rick Latona, the difference being that the newbies of today don't have the love affair with .com that the old timers do. Follow trends closely, of course, but never, never let your mind narrow.

Frankie, I hope your not serious and this was an April Fools joke.

You're failing miserably to notice some things.

First and foremost; domainers, Rick & Frank and whoever else do not and cannot decided the popularity of a domain extension.

Second; .com is king for a reason, when the first three gTLD's were released, .com was really the only one without restrictions. .Net was meant for infrastructure and .Org was meant for non-profit so they were somewhat restricted to who would use them. .Com had no limits other than just being a company.

Third; most importantly of all big business took on and used the .com in daily advertising spending millions if not billions on .com branding, even if unintentional they marked the .com as the TLD of choice for big business or all business for that matter.

Fourth; people assume .com now for the reasons mentioned above. The general population that could care less about domain extensions will go to .com as starting point because they have been ingrained with .com from the start of the internet, literally from when the internet took off it was always .com.

Fifth; no domainer collectively or by themselves will influence the world population on what TLD to use, it will be big business and the general public will follow course. I see no reason now or in the future that people will not continue to use .com. Why would they stop? What would cause the paradigm shift? Even godaddy.com when they chose a name they chose godaddy.com, they might have been able to get domains.us or some other name for cheap but they chose a .com, even a weird name that now sticks in peoples heads but the most important part was it's .com.

Hopefully you now understand this a little better. If you want to change the use of .com as the king then you will have to contact monster.com, godaddy.com, ford.com, yahoo.com, google.com, etc.......

Happy April!

Paul

I believe that ALL DOMAINS are going to drop in value. Simply because there will be so many to choose from.
No way. Supply and demand...

Also Note:

Supply and Demand will only drive the value of .com even higher because less of the better names will be available for use. Look at Pizza.com for sale now at Sedo, in 5 years that domain will be worth double or more it's value today because people will never stop eating pizza and they won't go to pizza.org.

Domains like all products may cycle but they will only continue to rise in value because we are talking about a global community not a single economic local market.

the .com dominance is strengthened in the US by NeuStar's inability to adequately promote the .US extension. If .US had the necessary exposure, advertising and market positioning, we'd almost immediately see the .com extension leveling off - at least in the US.
In other countries, "the home extension" - ccTLD, is often times equal or stronger than .com - point in case, also been mentioned here in this thread, look at the UK or Germany.
I think .com needs a strong opponent to bring a little more reason to the marketplace. As such, i hope it's only a question of time until the .US administration wakes up and does their job.

.com will rule until one day when we no longer need to type extension. I mean the best extension will be "no extension"

e.g. You just type in "computer" in search bar and no extension needed.

i think some cctld's are perhaps better , if you live in england what's better ?
hotels.co.uk or hotels.com i feel the first one is the go , but the next 20 people will disagree i'm sure ..... i think people are starting to look for their own cctld these days , perhaps the next gen will be a .tv situation ...... who knows ? surely frank and rick have enough money and aren't too fussed i suspect

Caution: I did not read every post here but i do have something to say about this one.

Now that is an unfair keyword to use in this situation. Of course someone in the UK is going to go the .co.uk extentions in this case because they live in the UK and they want a hotel in the UK. That is an example of a prime generic geo domain.

Now to be fair lets look at Airlines.com. Im am almost positive anyone would like to have this name in the .com extension over an other TLD or ccTLD or even gTLD. It all depends on the words being used and how the extention relates to those words. This why im a firm believer in only regging STONG generic KEYWORD domains that relate to the ccTLD or gTLD.

Now to address the .asia hype. Thats pretty much all is HYPE. Nothing will take over .com ever. Its to big and widely known. Sure countries will use THEIR ccTLD in some instances over .com but .com will remain on top because of the simple fact that it is widely known and used.

I see .asia failing like .eu. Countries would much rather use their ccTLD to a continent. There are some instances as i stated would be better in .asia like Hotels.asia. Its obvious which ones stick out and which ones fail.

Until .web comes out and becomes equal to .com, nothing can take it.

But I will reg .web's all day long. And you know its coming.
