From the looks of things, Pyxis seems to be the name for the network which Zune devices will use to share content, since in the "DJing Content" section it states that "Pyxis allows you to stream music to up to 4 other Pyxis devices."

Good luck everyone!

Grabbed one the beginning of August, when there was a rumor. Since I am in the music world....I had wondered if it was a good Idea at the time, but judging by the reference to "Pyxis" and "Music" I will hold on to it. :)

I believe that PyxisMusic.com is one of the best names for the Pyxis, and that was the first name I searched, though I did pickup the .NET

Good luck!

Hey Peaches017---thanks for the affirmation. As a newbie, though no stranger to risk there is that element of being unsure. It seemned from the onset that speculation to some degree may be the biggest payoff in the end in domaining. As one may anticipate trends and the like there is a bit of trial and error, fishing in the sea of names.

Some years back (1998), before Godaddy, and $8.99 Reg fees; I knew someone who had hundreds of LLL.coms and generic .coms, who no doubt is a gazillionaire by now :$: :$: :$: I had no idea at the time what gold mine he was sitting on. :'(

Good luck to us all!

I was about to register Pyxis as the name was rumored in mid-July along with if Zune or Argo is the final one.

PyxisMusic.com is a heck of a name, but I'm not too sure if this is still a codename or the final one as Microsoft hasn't really made final comments regarding Pyxis network.

A network for Zune, I believe, will be Zune Live as zunelive.com is registered by Microsoft.

Nevertheless, if Pyxis does become an official network name, I'll be sure to pick one or two up. :)

You are better off to wait I think. See my last post here, something fishy:

I am still on the fence to, as there is too much speculation. I took the chance though as it was only Reg fee, and I only registered one Pyxis name. Hey..worst case scenario is I have a music related name connected to a minor southern constellation. :alien: Of course I can imagine the best case scenario. But my hesitation did have to do with as Kerri Said, the Pyxis web site (medical supplies.)

The jury is still out on this one....though I did get a little excited about the connection of music and Pyxis as a network. :?

Howdy Hawkeye! You probably are...just a mile away :) The world is a small place.

Curious about Pyxis as noted by an Apple Insider staff on Friday, August 25th., Wireless communication

"In order to use wireless sharing feature such as 'send' and 'DJ' you will need to turn on your device's wireless capabilities," Microsoft states in the user manual. "When this setting is on, your device will be discoverable by other Pyxis devices and also be capable of searching for other Pyxis devices in range."

I did register Portablewifiplayer.com as well. It is a broader based name with hopefully some potential.

I guess we will all find out soon enough...

Yes, but it is in this supposed user manual that the website address www.pyxis.com is shown. That's why I am hesitant on this. :)

Kerri,

Hmmm...Dunno either they are still trying to aquire it (microsofts deep pockets) or it is a code of sorts. How strange that Pyxis.com is listed in the manual though? A bit like the cart befor the horse...

I guess I don't really understand what this is myself. If it's just the network used for communications what commercial value is there in the name.

It sounds to me like Pyxis is nothing more than Microsoft reinventing the WiFi network. If Pyxis is just the localized sharing network used for the DJ features on the Zune I can't understand why anyone would ever need a website on it.

Pyxis does not appear to me to be the music service for the Zune device. Is that what people think it is? Because I'm fairly certain myself anyway that the Zune service will be run under Zunelive.com. I could still be mistaken but I doubt it. Falls in place with Live.com, Windowslive.com and Xboxlive.com. Am I wrong?
