I had a weird thought this morning that the certain entities in China are doing a pump and dump scheme. Stock markets, Forex, Bitcoins are all heavily manipulated markets by those with great wealth.

Could it be possible to do that with 4L-5L, 6N-8N domains? Or perhaps what we're seeing it normal, a natural progression of the market.

Anyone thought along the same lines? Or am I comparing apples and oranges?

this all looks like http://www.economist.com/blogs/freeexchange/2013/10/economic-history

You can also say that tulips are collectible, and there is no other tulip like that. And they are rare.
I mean if people belive it, then its all good.

But guys we are here already registering 8-9 number domains. they are not rare.

there are so many .ext in world. etc..

at those prices levels, you can not maintain liquidity, there will simply too many for sale at some point.

Even 4 letter.com-s at $2000 each thats almost $320 000 000 for all 4 letter Chinese premiums.

And even with collectibles there also need`s to be people outside the collectors area. Like paintings - regular people also want some, they want to but them to wall etc..
thats where the money comes.

I do prefer when you are reasoning like that. Surely there is need of new people that become collectors. The more the collector, the more the item increas in value. At the beginning the number of collectors is probably low (think abouth first years on the internet where few domains existed; there where a bunch of collectors and no market. Look at it now; huge domain market, strong value for rarest domain. There are of course many other variables for domains (traffic, brand, etc) that make a domain valuable. I use to have several chinese LLLL.com that lot of people here bought in 2008 during the buyout. Not many people believed in it ; I stupidly sold along the way for a quick flip (I have sold also some for XXXX and XXXXX though). XJZK didn t make economic sense at that time . Now you will get easily 1.5K for it.

by the way KXKKH.COM is a 5L with a pattern. I put in on auction not because I need the money, or needs renewal. I have my scopes. You are a strong minded person that doesn t accept other people's ideas easily. You should follow the market because you can't believe that the market is what you think itis You would never buy something like ssssz.com true? it doesn t make sense. Well you will get more then 1K for it assured.

They're not collectibles to you.

I've been collecting domains for ~20 years now. Buying, selling, trading --- yes, collecting. I suppose you could call it "accumulating" instead of "collecting"... but I've always considered myself a domain hobbyist and hobbyists tend to collect things.

Is your issue with them being collectable that they have a yearly fee attached? Over something like stamps? People collect cars and the insurance costs of keeping rare cars is insanely high -- let alone having the space to keep them.

Domains are awesome because my wife gives me enough space to keep as many as I want. This is in stark contrast to the 3 drawers I've been allotted in the bedroom. ;)

do i get it right that millions of chinese suddenly decided to become collectors of meaningless xqzjk.coms, xjtz.nets, 4N.cc etc etc almost overnight? more likely some wise investors/registrars/traders wanted to artificially create new "stock market" for a fast pump and dump, small domainers followed... now we can daytrade 6N.coms just like MSFT or AMZN... i wont be surprised if at some point 22.cn introduce market stop orders and launches options/futures... buy 100 4L.nets @ 150.. beware of margin calls

totally agreed, I took a look at the chanomi thing they have going on.
It has all the whistles and bells and lights that a Bubble needs.
I mean how crazy is that, They wake up in 2015 and one month they daytrade domains :)
and trade total meaningless domains.

Soon they will be offering lease or loans on them, so the bubble can go on and on.

so you are not as wise as you think. Parking at Sedo give you peanuts. I use to have a 5L chines domain with lot of traffic. Then I set up a website that brought me 150 dollars a month in adsense. Traffic with time faded and Iet the domain expire.

You can't make much money with traffic from China.

It is awesome to see a great amount of traffic on your domains and especially if they are Chinese domains. It means that your name is getting a lot of interest among China!

Names like xxwww.com and cdcdc.com are not random letters but valuable assets as Chinese investors are hunting for paterns! AABBB ABABA.

Random 5L .com won't get much value unless they are pinyin acronyms.

I can share the name. it was cndgn apparently means We can give you I set up a blog with many posts (200+) on design and computer related stuff and around 200 visitors a day. Most of traffic was from China but also from other countries. It worked for around a year then traffic got much lighter. Now domain has been picked up and redirect to a company website
