Publication.com - Redeemed a few hours ago from PendingDelete status

Today I placed a bid on Publication.com at NameJet. This premium was about to drop and had close to 200 bids on NJ with a high bid of about $3,000. This is what its whois looked like:

Code:
Domain Name: PUBLICATION.COM
Registrar: DOMAIN.COM, LLC
Whois Server: whois.domain.com
Referral URL: http://www.domain.com
Name Server: NS1.NAC.NET
Name Server: NS2.NAC.NET
Name Server: NS6.NAC.NET
Status: pendingDelete
Updated Date: 05-jan-2013
Creation Date: 24-oct-1995
Expiration Date: 23-oct-2012

Miraculously, a few hours ago it was taken out of the PendingDelete status and 6 years were added to its expiration date:

Code:
Domain Name: PUBLICATION.COM
Registrar: DOMAIN.COM, LLC
Whois Server: whois.domain.com
Referral URL: http://www.domain.com
Name Server: NS1.NAC.NET
Name Server: NS2.NAC.NET
Name Server: NS6.NAC.NET
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 11-jan-2013
Creation Date: 24-oct-1995
Expiration Date: 23-oct-2018

A very shady move that IMO shouldn't go unnoticed.

I don't understand how a domain can be taken out of pending delete. However, I have a backorder for a domain that has shown pending delete for about 20 days now.

There needs to be a uniform system for all registrars IMO.

I saw this posted earlier, think it was on "TheDomains" or something. Looks pretty shady if you ask me, pendingDelete is supposed to be non-restorable.

pendingDelete is supposed to be non-restorable.

It's non-restorable by definition as it is the phase the follows 'redemptionPeriod'.

If that is the Registry info above (as opposed to the Registrar info), then this is definitely a shady deal because all Pending Delete status domains must drop according to ICANN rules. So if this is the Registry data, then, if your interested, you should ask both the Registry and ICANN how come it was possible to renew this domain. If it is the Registrar data, that doesn't mean anything.

Personally, I think Publication.com is worth anywhere between $xx,xxx - $xxx, xxx. So there would be plenty of room for corruption/bribes. Then all you have to figure out who gained from renewing this pendingDelete domain. Was it the Registry or the Registrar? Them maybe you would be able to use that info to your advantage in the future.

It could also be that the domain was renewed before it went into pending delete, and some accommodation was come to between the Registrar and Registry.

Most intriguing. I think this is the first time this sort of thing happened, namely a court order to keep a domain name from becoming available.

It's probably arising from this:

My bet still is that the root or crux of this dubious domain dilema is that it revolves around that much lamented disasterous platform migration from Dotster to Domain.com that exposed major technological problems and deficient customer service ... and at that "group of registrars under the Endurance umbrella (which left a huge trail of destruction of unhappy & dismayed customers behind )...as this domain had an expiration date in October which is when most of the other chaos at that Org started festering......

In short, it may be the case of a domain name that was paid for renewal, didn't renew as it should due to this "synching issue" between Domain.com and Dotster, then this whole thing happened. Hopefully, more details will follow.

Yes, I know... that's why I said it looked shady.

If that's the case it could be legit. I'd be interested in seeing more of that court order though.

So now we know how to recover our domains in Pending Delete Status. Issue a court order to Verisign forbidding them to delete the domain :) With reason, of course :)

Heh, you'd have to file for that in VeriSign's jurisdiction, of course.

Say, anyone know who is (or was?) the owner of that domain name? It's still under privacy.

It looks like Dotster screwed up and allowed the domain to expire.

After this is all over, I would move that domain to a more secure registrar AND register it for the max time.
