Hello Everyone,

I hear alot of people on the forums talking that they have had their domain name sotlen from them when they weren't looking! It sounds like it happens quite alot!

I have a reasonably high-traffic website and I feel that it may just become more and more valuable as I keep working at it as the years go on. I am really worried about getting my domain name stolen!

Is there a way to protect you domain name, or to get it back once it has been stolen?

I also seem to hear alot of people saying they are angry and that they cannot get their domain names back after they have been stolen!

Help

From someone on the inside:

1 - Make sure your domain names are locked
2 - Avoid using a free email address as your primary registrar email contact or using an insecure one. These can be easily hacked
3 - If your registrar provides security tools like restricting logins to a specific IP address use it(we provide this feature)
4 - Avoid using simple passwords, these can be easily figured out
5 - Keep your virus software up to date, trojans that capture keystrokes are a problem so having a good virus scanning program would only be helpful

There are many others but these are basic recommendations you can follow

I suppose if you have a dynamic IP you can't do that

#1 always keep your domain locked.

Never, ever, access ANY account when you are in a cybercafe, these places are loaded with keyloggers. As a rule, only access your domain account with your own Fort Knox computer and NEVER use a free email account.
