I have had someone wanting to buy a domain of mine recently and they want me to get a "Proffesional" Appraisal and have proof that i got the appraisal. He says this is standard practice, which i have never had anyone not do business with me because i havnt gotten a "proffesional" appraisal. Has anyone else had anything like this before?

I think this is a scam (which previously done by some Antony?! from a rock email id.)
May be you you post the mail (I remember he suggested appraisals from Greatdomains, HollywoodDomains & the 3rd one is his own website.)

It just tempts to get an appraisal from his service. Once you paid & get it, there will be no reply. (I also remember in his website he put links like Domain wanted ads column & also he has thousands of domain buyers , blah blah....

the guy hasnt asked me to go to a specific appraiser or anything of that sort, but it just seems to fishy for me. He has real interest in the name though. As he says he doesnt want to "overpay" for a name that i know for a fact im already underselling.

As noted above - this is a very popular scam running right now. They direct you to a forum which has a couple "professional appraisal services". All of them are the same. The truth is, anyone buying a domain name should already recognize value, or if need be - purchase an appraisal themselves.

Atleast you werent suckered in!

To me it is rediculous that a buyer would ask you to appraise a domain that he wants. A real buyer probably hopes you dont recognize the value in your domain so that he could get a cheaper price. An appraisal would only yield the risk of it being appraised at a lot higher than you intended to sell.

This is most likely a scam.

These were my exact thoughts. A domains worth is decided by how much the buyer wants to pay. Im not gonna pay someone to tell me what i already know.
