Print question for designers

Hey, when designing a logo that is going to be used for print work... and hence it needs to be fully resizable (vector)... i have been simply using photoshop and making sure that everything i create is a shape vector, and not rasterizing the image at all, and then saving it as a photoshop .EPS file? is this good enough or do you really need to use say illustrator? ive been using photoshop for ages so i am just use to doing it that way, but i want to make sure that the final product is still going to be okay with no problems when people open it in say illustrator to make it 10x larger...

i have been told that illustrotr is the way to go, but can i still do it with photoshop as i said above? i dont have the money to buy illustrator right now...

Illustrator is practically the king of logo design IMO

Illustrator... Its impossible for you to make vector images in PS....

yeah really you arent making vectors in photoshop, you are making rasters, which are just as good, just... not vector

ya, Flash makes vectors to, they are drawn with mathematical formulas, not pixels, so they look good at any size

right... okay, but i thought as long as you dont rasterize the shape vector then it is still a mathematical image based on points...

ps. does illustrator let you create styles on the vector logo like in photoshop?

We have created many logos using just photoshop. The size you create the image really depends on its final use. always create your artwork at 300dpi and cmyk (if its going to be printed full colour). If you do use just photoshop to create your logos make sure you create it at the largest size possibe - we usually have an A3 master version from which we can downsize (but never enlarge) for other projects. You can save your artwork as a layered tiff. Dont go down the rute of tyring to use flash for creating vector logos!!! corel draw or freehand are just as good as illustrator for any vector work.

cheers for that neo3media.... so when creating the logo in photoshop like you said, is there any point in making as a shape vector without rasterizing it? and is there any point in saving it as a .eps file?

basically when providing a logo for someone, what file formats would you need to provide them so that they can print etc.?
