Is their system a decent gage of the monetary value of the dn or just the key words.

I have a domain that was marked Premium with a score of 459/1000 and they say anything that is rated 400 + is considered a Premium Domain name. Also that the Price should be $1000.

The Domain they certified was Payitem.com Recently DailyDomain Newsletter wrote up this for Payitem.com

DAILY DOMAINER APPRAISAL: PayItem.com
===================================================================

PayItem.com

Google: 230,000 results for "pay item"
MSN score: 0 for "pay item"
Overture: 82 for "pay item"
Backlink score: 1 for PayItem.com

A pay item is a unit of work for which a cost appears in the
related schedule of items. The expression is mostly used in
the context of road construction, and it is difficult to imagine
that the domain would be used for anything but internal purposes
by contractors and Departments of Transportation.

With a little creativity, "pay item" could also stand for "pay
for an item" or "pay items" in the context of an online payment
system.

Estimated wholesale value: $20 to $50
Estimated retail value: $100 to $200

GoDaddy.com gave me this:

https://domainaftermarket.godaddy.c...l.aspx?a=43d9292c-56fa-4d9b-a3e6-c7737c18d7a1

Which is the better assessment the higher or the lower and if it's the lower what's up with PremiumDomains?

Sorry didn't know where to put this I thought It might go in Appraisals but It's more of a search for a better gage on the Domain Name Appraisal Market.

PremiumDomains.com doesn't offer an actual appraisal. They ask for a $1,000 minimum listing price so that they can fetch a higher commission.

ok i get it.

So does that mean I should take the Godaddy.com paid appraisal as a good starting point.

Asian Invasion,

FIRST:

I am wondering where have you seen that the minimum listing price at PremiumDomains.com is 1K?
There is no minimum, actually there 440 premium names for sale under $1,000 and starting at $100 for the cheaper.

SECOND:
=======
We do not charge any sales commissions.

The only point where you are true is we do not offer appraisal services, just domain valuation.

i will tell you one thing. when premiumdomain.com will rock ,and as i see their agressive marketing, it will be soon, you will be glad your domain is listed as a premium.

Very simple. Never pay for an appraisal. Use those that are free, such as here at Namepros. I have been a dummy in the past, thinking if I got one from www.Sedo.com ,it must be good. Doesn't mean a thing, other than you paid someone to tell you your domain is good, or bad. Pay me, I'll tell you!! Great domain, valuable, worth $xx,xxx, guranteed to sell. $29 please, via www.Paypal.com Based on KnarfmusikGreatAftermarketTDNo1PrizedDomainsNam !! Ha!

Again, the only accurate appraisal is one with a corresponding cash offer.

Don't pay for appraisals. Ever. ( This coming from a guy who owns and runs http://www.valuateit.com If you want to, pay me - I'll do it - And it will be just as worthless as GoDaddy's ;) )

Paid appraisals are worthless because they cannot put a price on a company or persons personal wants and needs. You could put in SOMEAWESOMEIDEA.com for appraisal and they tell you it's worth $50 but then BOB comes along with his business and his multi-million dollar idea and money and has a product or idea that is SOMEAWESOMEIDEA and thus he wants SOMEAWESOMEIDEA.COM and will be willing to pay you $500,000 so he can have that name.

I don't believe in paid appraisals, the ones done here for free are enough, and even those are just their personal opinions and nobody can really put a price on a domain because there might be a business or person out there who wants it bad enough to pay you a good ammount for it.

Toodles!

I agree with this. But...

If many people are trying to raise the point of Virtual Property Valuation where is the happy median?

In Brick and Mortar we have Location Location Location when buying property. Here in the virtual world its Short and Dot COM as the valuable properties for now. Where will that lead us?

And I know I'm only a noob in here but this business seems like fun and as a former web designer I like being on the web and if I can make money doing something here I'd rather do this then be swinger a hammer all day.

So my question is how do we as an "Business" come up with a formula that can work here? Or do you see us sticking with "Short and DOT COM" as our Location Location Location evaluation points?

It's all subjective.

While I use premium domains.com to get a starting point, I understand that even he is only giving an opinion. In reality, if it really was a premium domain, it would either be already taken and being used, or as soon as it was listed, offers would come pouring in.

What was said above is right. Only cash offers should be considered as appraisals because that is the real price someone is willing to pay.

As to "short and dot com"....yes, that is the way it is. You might be able to get away with a longer name, say up to three words, but it seems to me there are really only two or three serious tld's.

DotCom is the King and always will be. DotOrg is the Queen and will be the serious side of the net with charities and what-not. DotNet is the Prince and heir to the King, but just isn't mature enough to take over yet. In fact, DotNet staged a small coup years ago, but the King bitch-slapped him back down. All the other DotTLD's are just the court jesters running around in front of the throne juggling bowling balls and chainsaws and hoping to be noticed. Occasionally, one of them catches on fire for a short time, but then the flame burns out.

Finally some humour in a post. Great visual of .net getting bitch-slapped :)

Thanks. People are way too serious around here. I understand it's a big money business, and I want my piece, but without humor, you have ulcers. And possibly hemorroids.

GoDaddy's appears to be much more accurate valuation.

I'm actually surprised to see one that isn't over inflated like normal domain appraisal services.

ah see now you just opened a whole other can of worms. Accurate according to whom? and what criteria are you using to say "hey that's a fair price".?

Accurate to me and my nearly 6 years full time in this business.

Thanks Smith,

wow 6 years in the business I wish I knew 6 years ago that this could be a full time business I would have hung on to all those domains I let drop. Oh well as a former web designer I'm glad I landed here at Namepros lots to learn and lots of people to learn from i.e. never BUY a domain appraisal lol.

So Guess I'll just put these names up for auction some where and really get started. I assume the best way to learn this business is to just dive in with a bunch of NPbuddies behind us to stop us from making big mistakes.

Wish me luck. I'm going to try Ebay to auction and maybe I'll think about Sedo but those commisions are killer when your putting up a domain that others think are only worth 50-150 dollars. Eh?

Ebay is a waste of money unless you don't expect much. Just my opinion.
