People tent to use the phrase ‘Premium domain names’ quite often. Can somebody tell me what a real Premium domain name is?

To me a premium domain is a type in name, such as sports.com or a very common phrase such as free games.

I agree with tippy, I consider the common household terms as a real premium domains but we have different views so everyone consider something different and unique..

Its just like I consider my fave basketball team as premium while others not..

"Premium" implies that there is something special about the domain that commands a premium price. There are many names listed for sale (here and on other forums) as premium domains that laughably not premium.

As an example, all 3 letter .coms are worth min $2k, but a 3 letter word is worth much more, therby making it premium.

IMO a generic term or 2/3 domain in .com capable of commanding a sales price of $50,000+ without considering trafiic.

IMO it is a short(ish), rememberable, generic dictionary word in a popular extension (does'nt always mean a.com) that perfectly discribes a product/service and attracts loads of direct type in traffic on a regular basis.

The premium ones are the ones where alot of that traffic can be converted to big $$$'s by either paying customers or PPC.

Diamond.com for example

.

I'm as guilty as anyone for mis-using "premium" to describe so-so domains.

A premium domain is one that makes you sick that you don't own it...a domain that, when you see it, it's like, "God, I wish I owned that."

Sort of the equivalent of seeing a Lamborghini Contach weaving through traffic and making the other cars look plain.

Agreed - While we all know .com's get the most type ins , I do think there are premiums in most all extensions though.

The word premium is over-used a bit too much IMO ;) - I'd say most one word dictionary domains with premium searches and PPC interest is in this category though - Business.com etc .... Being WAY up there on the list :p

Two word domains and even Three word domains can be as well - depending on the interest in the subjects too ..

A premium domain is one that can get more traffic with typeins without much pormotion. And basically such are the names as held by the Big Guns or after which the small guns are ;)

A premium domain is one you are trying to sell.
A junk domain is one you are trying to buy,
but you will do them a favor and take it off their hands.
