Prelaunch , Marketing, Resources?

Im working on a website i plan to launch in end of march and im looking for resources on learning how to successfully prelaunch a website. Im going all the way with this project because im very passionate about the topic and it will benefit many people so this is not the avg website. My mission statement is to touch people and motivate them. Ive never built a website this big or even handle a project this nature so im looking for help.

One technique i have tried in the past is to find a community that relates to the product you are selling and then let them all know about a competition you have running which will be drawn on your launch day.

Make your competition so that all they have to do to enter is submit their email address' and then you will be able to create a large list of people who you can email on your sites launch day.

The prize doesn't have to be massive, but a little investment in a prize could bring a big return from the amount of email address you could build up.

You could also add your competition to some of the competition portal sites out their to get more people interested.

Personally, I would build suspense by putting up a web page...just like that whole EON8 fiasco. Then, write a script so that at exactly x o'clock, the page is replaced with your new page.

The first thing you should do is to quickly slap up a 'pre-launch' page on your site.

Get them to opt-in to your 'vip list' or 'priority notification list' in exchange for getting in first and maybe offering an ethical bribe.

This may be in the form of a free e-report, a e-lesson, a discount when the site/product is launched etc...

Next is to bring it viral and create something 'buzzworthy' something that will
get people talking!

Is it controversial? Is it funny? Is it touching? Can people spread the message easily?
