Confirmed and checked most of my sites from multiple sources.

Google PR has been Updated [Toolbar one] :)

As usual a mixed bag of feelings. But still very happy to see that it has updated finally after a long wait.

Agree with you on the mixed feelings! It's nice to have one number straight from the source, but so many people place way too much importance on it.

I was getting used to using Moz/Ahrefs/Majestic instead. I think I'll spend some time looking at updated TBPR across a variety of sites/page types/niches vs those stats and see if I can get a better feel for how they correspond.

(I'd expect Ahrefs to be the most consistent because they have by far the largest backlink index, but it will be interesting to compare.)

I still predict that one of these days toolbar PR will disappear for good.

I just searched "page rank" keyword on twitter.com and guess what 80 % of the folks talking about Page Rank seem to be from India Pakistan. It seems the rest of the world doesn't give two hoots about toolbar page rank anymore. :D

Agreed. But try to sell an ads spot on the website and then maybe PR will come in picture. That is where everyone wants to give in 4 hoots on that one and that is why TBPR is not losing its importance.

I am not taking sides but I have myself tried to sell sites and banner spots after Feb 2013 till today and I have faced that same question about TBPR around May 2013 even if my PA, DA and Ahref stuff was nice and shiny.

Anyway just a food for thought.

Sellers and buyers are the only ones who get excited about page rank.

Toolbar PageRank has created an economy all its own - that's one reason why I think Google will eventually take it away.

Anyone who passes up link opportunities on sites or pages with low PR ONLY because of the green pixels is a fool. If its a quality, relevant site, there's a good chance that it will grow and pass valuable traffic. Get in while the space is available and the price is cheap.

Same is true for higher PR - how many sites had TBPR propped up with iffy links and lost it all when Penguin hit? Or when Google nuked a couple of blog networks? Look at the whole picture.

Yea, I'm glad Google finally updated, I've been waiting so long for it!

Though I like the fact that Google PR has finally been updated to give me an idea what progress I have made or sadly a regress, I really thought that Google was going to do away with the whole PR thing. The moment when Matt Cutts was quoted saying "Over time the toolbar PageRank is getting less usage just because recent versions of Internet Explorer don't really let you install toolbars that easily and Chrome doesn't have the toolbar, so over time the PageRank indicator will probably start to go away a little bit".

Hopefully they will continue to keep updating it every so often so I have just an idea how important and popular my sites and my client sites are in general.

Would not traffic to your site give you a better idea of the importance of your site?
Of the popularity of your site?

Page rank does not mean the above.
There are high page rank sites so far down the SERPs it is unreal.
New sites with no page rank or sites with low page rank go higher in the SERPS most times.

You are correct.Traffic does give an excellent idea about how important a site is. Traffic is pretty much one of the main ways to analyze how well a site is doing and it's importance. But PageRank gives you another angle or view point to analyze as well with regards to importance.

One of the reasons why I use PageRank as another angle to view my sites importance is because of what Google states on there own site.

"PageRank works by counting the number and quality of links to a page to determine a rough estimate of how important the website is. The underlying assumption is that more important websites are likely to receive more links from other websites".

So that is why I use PageRank as an additional method to view my sites importance. It's just another angle to look at.

Which is fine, except that unlike their INTERNAL page rank (which is constantly being updated) TOOLBAR page rank (the green bar) is only updated periodically - what was the last time, 9 months or so?

A lot of things can happen in that time span - links are gained, links are lost, links are devalued ... It's convenient, as a quick ballpark estimate but not very accurate.

The problem is when people act as if it is ... or mistakenly assume it means something beyond the link profile

More up-to-date link information from ahrefs, opensiteexplorer or majestic - though they don't offer Google's "opinion" on the value of those links.

No one when your website will be updated as long as you honor the rules by search engine sites then you know the updates will be good.
