PR and Backlinks

Well it's time to check PR and backlinks again

An update has been going on since yesterday. One of my sites finally received a PR4 from PR0. The rests of them maintained their PR5/PR6.

Backlinks went down, though. Many people have been reporting this also. Some say Google is currently filtering many backlinks. We'll have to wait till things stabilize to see if this is true.

yup - i got some good PR updates as well. a couple went to a 3 from 0 and one moved from a 4 to a 5.

BUT---- Has anyone seen a pagerank like this one:-

A perfect 10 - never seen one of them before.

Well, many forums are using phpBB and linking back to the home site. Imagine how many backlinks they have. They have around 12,100,210 backlinks

I had to look twice when I saw you quoting that google has a PR of 10 - the .com may have, but the .co.uk only has a 9 and that is the one I go in through, hence never seeing another 10!!

You would think they would at least give themselves a perfect score - maybe it is impartial after all :lol:

Yes PR10 is the highest.

Dan, every domain starts with a PR0. Your PR3 is just fine. Try to get quality and relevant sites to link to yours. Reaching PR6 is easy. Getting past it is the real test.

I think with sites like phpbb.org selling PR, google has taken notice and devalued PR in their overall ranking algorithm.

While it's nice to have a domain with a decent PR, it isn't an instant "jump in the rankings" like it used to be.

either download and use the google toolbar (internet explorer only if I remember correctly)

or use a site such as http://www.freelance-help.com/google-ranking-report/page-rank.php

but remember www.domain.com is different than domain.com when checking pr

its just it is possible for the www. address to lead to a different site (you could also have www2 etc).

If google took them to be the same site there could be a problem of a site being wrongly boosted by a different sites rank

Well, www.namepros.com is a PR5 and namepros.com is a 0

*scratches head*....

most sites will be linking to www.namepros.com and that will be the one submitted to the search engines.

you can check this by going to google and typing the following into the search bar:-

link:www.namepros.com

now try :-

link:namepros.com

notice the difference

PR is just the amount of other PR sites pointing to it with links.

ok explain why http://www.petermcdonald.co.uk has a pr of 2 yet there are no links (nor content mind you lol) and it has been like this for some time
