It is a good keyword domain, I like the .org with the keyword city domains, works well, obviously there can be only one .com, and this is the next best alternative.

Nice domain. It is a major city in both Maine and Oregon.

The term is taken in all major extensions and contained in about 70 total domains.

I have a few similar domains in .ORG and have received Mid $XXX+ offers in the past.

The value is probably Low $XXX reseller, High $XXX - Low $X,XXX end user.

I would say you should get $100-200 for it, if you contact all mortgage companies in Portland and let them know it is on the market you should be able to do very nicely with it however, it is not .com and that is why I would never pay more than that if I were buying...unless you figure out how to get it in the top ten of google ;)

as i posted at Domain Name Discussion forum, i basicly got an offer of about 140$ for the name from a mortgage broker in portland.
i sent a mail to him first offering the name for sell at 600$, he replied that he is not interested but willing to buy it cheap, he thinks i got the name for about 69$ and offered to double my money.

should i accept or counter with a higher price?

I would be willing to pay something near that price as a reseller. I think it has far too much potential to sell for $140.

I think $140 is too low for that domain specially if it is an end user buying it. I would suggest to hold on to it for a little longer and it will pay you back much more. If you just recently registered it then You still have a whole year to sell it. So I would say Just wait for a a few months and keep offering it to different end user. You may even end up high $XXX to $X,XXX...

For now atleast build a mini site or a DevHub site with google adsense and some affiliate links and you can probably make $X or low $XX a month..

Place a basic html site with his competitors on the domain (to try to spark a bidding war...if one doesnt buy it another will most likely), try to get it as high in google rankings as you can and then contact him again and make sure he understands his is not the only offer you are looking at...dont spam other people but let them know it is on the market to the highest bidder.

If you wish I can give you the details of the person who does these kinds of deals on a daily basis and he can give you some fantastic hints and advice for free...I am thinking he will be able to help you get double their offer at least and even possibly upto and beyond $1,000 ...and if not what have you really lost? Simply park it again and let it pay for itself.

It is my thinking that you really should go for more but it is .org...I will pm you his contact details :)

I second CamMk, there is no reason to accept the first lowball offer that comes along.

Neither do I, but it is simple.

There are tons of free templates all over the web, all you do is load one up into Kompozer or something, edit the text and instead make it list his competitors and then use filezilla to upload it to your site, remembering to change the title and heading to "portland mortgage" exactly so in a few days it should fly very high in the rankings.

This is what I did with my very basic site and it is now at rank 25 or so with next to nothing on it, just waiting for the backlinks to take hold lol.

About 30 minutes of work will grab you an extra 300+ dollars I should think and probably even more just like washing a car before someone looks at it.

i countered his offer with a 400$ price just to see if there is a chance for a quick sale at that price, if not, i will hold on to it and try to learn how to develop the site while offering the name to other mortgage brokers in portland.

$140 is to cheap, you have more upside on holding, ,org works good with mortgage and refinancing.

High $Xx - Low $Xxx ... in the .ORG ... in an End user "Quick Sale", IMHO. :talk:

Good Luck,
