PokerHost.net to an end-user.

This is kind of complicated. The .com is developed by a larger poker affiliate who now wants to buy the .net. Due to TV network policies, you cannot advertise .com on television. There is no restrictions on .net. So many sites are branding .nets along with .coms.

I ran into one of the owners at the bar at the world series of poker this year and he called me out as the guy who owns the .net. He indicated they wanted to buy it. I know that they're going to lowball me and try to pick it up cheap.

What should I hold out for?

Just to be clear, there is (obviously) no restriction to advertising .com websites on television. You're referring to the ban on advertising gambling services to US audiences.

For this reason many gambling sites operate a "play for fun" or "learning" version of their site on the .net and advertise that knowing visitors will see the real money site on the .net page.

This could really be done on any other extension or even another domain so keep that in mind. Most likely they'd prefer the .net version for this purpose but they do have other options.

definitely hold out for xx,xxx dollars

I think a lot of poker hosts action is play money or low stakes- doubtfully they are making tons of money like other sites.

The .net is critical if they are going to advertise is the states.

Perhaps a fixed price of $50k which they won't like, then eventually sell it for $20k or more.

Yeah, I guess it might not be obvious what I meant with the .com ban thing. Obviously this only applies to certain types of gambling .com domain names. It's an interesting situation though because you're right that they can use another extension. But regardless of what they do, pokerhost.net's type-in traffic numbers are going to continue going up. So it might create a situation where I'm better off holding onto it and just making PPC revenue.

People have been condition to automaticaly associate the .com with the .net when it comes to poker. This is because of the endless comericals telling you to play for free at the .net, when you know they make their money at the .com Any well establish poker .com would love to own their .net name, even if its just to make sure not to lose traffic. Looks like the site been taking action for at least 4 years. "Poker Host is the newest addition to SBG GLOBAL, the world's largest and most respected sportsbook, online casino and poker room." They have a Poker Affiliate Program, link to other: Sportsbook,Online Casino,Racebook, As well as their Poker Room. The BIG question is PokerHost.Com enough of a "player" to one day spend the big money to buy tv comercial time? If the answer is yes, then you can get the xx,xxx but if there small time and only buying it to redirect traffic, or just hoping to need it, then they might only offer 2k-5k. I think they know you well enough to know you wont sell cheap. For me they have to dump a brinks truck on me lol. Poke around with 50-100k and see what they say. You dont have to do the deal on the quick. I think anything under 10k would be a let down, so aim high.

Yes. It's a fairly high traffic name and makes an average of about $750/yr in PPC revenue.

Yeah, I don't even look at the sticky threads to be honest.

750 in ppc would translate to $3750 right there, add to that opportunity cost and targeted traffic which could convert would make this a $10k name.

Frankly don't see the $50k valuations that people are talking about.

Good Luck

Stickies are okay, but I understand how people overlook them.

Maybe PokerHost will cut you in on some revenue sharing - Maybe they would give you your own promo code that gets a TV spot for 30% rake....

Residual income is the way to go if PokerHost makes that offer.

Or a lease contract?

5-6 digits plus rev share, plus moving expenses and joining their team, lol. Don't forget to move from the U.S. before the rev share... Selling the domain shouldn't get the DOJ on you.

Don't worry about the legal aspects for Jack, he has been involved enough with internetpoker to know what he can do legally.
In fact he is probably qualified to advice all domainers with poker related domains on many aspects.

I did this with pokertime.net a few years back, hold out for 5 digits.

Dutch,
Unless you're getting a large, consistent amount of revenue, I'm more inclined to stick with Samit (MWZD's) appraised value.

In my opinion, $10,000 is a fantastic price for it.
