Hello -RJ-

I have a suggestion for namepros. Can we have a poker system were we bet np$ on games on who wins and people playing could bet np$. My suggestion is to use a java or flash app on the site on something like namepros.com/poker.php.

Would this be possible to do -RJ-?

It would be fun and we could charge for having games and have a mod supervize to prevent insane bets etc.

..and -RJ-, i can give you all the names below (for free) if you do this for us namepro members.

pokerserver.net (got traffic, averaging 10visits/day)
pokerhead.net
lovepoker.info

Thanks,

Robert

personally, though its a good idea we have some young members on NPs and i doubt it will be allowed!

There are NamePros poker games over at pokerstars i think?
Well their was? Not up to speed on that.
Maybe legalities would be problematic for it to be homed here at NP due to age restrictions.

one major problem would be the fact that np$ can be bought and sold using paypal so effectively can be considered as cash so this would be real gambling. Nampepros would have to ensure that anyone who had access was over 18 (or whatever the age is in their country/state) It is most likely a gaming licence would also have to be obtained.

Maybe a set of rules like the domain appraises and sales are in order stateing that you have to be over 18.

I dont want age restrictions, i am only 15 at the moment, and i will be 18 in 2008. And.... because np$ is not real money we are actually gambling virtual money, not real money, just because it can be traded back to real cash would just make it more popular.

any other suggestions?

You'd just have to make sure someone provides credit card details then and make sure the system is policed to stop underage gambling.

One major thing however is NamePros is located in the US so I doubt any of this is actually possible.

It is real money, if you have to buy Np's how do you do it? Paypal, If you sell Np's how do you do it? Paypal. Real Money. Age would be the problem, Otherwise I like the Idea..

And when I go down my local casino or play in william hill or ladbrokes I pay my entrance fee and I get chips, the chips that I am playing with is not real money but I can still cash them in if I have any left at the end of the tournament. Even tho I am playing with chips the casino still need a gaming licence and I still have to be over 18 by law (I beleive the casino actually want over 21 only).

Well how about this.

Over 18: np$
Under 18: Domain Credit

That way we are not breaking any laws because domain credit cannot be transfered back to money and we can still play.

You totally missed Filth's point.

Just because Np$ isn't directly money, (the same as casino chips) it has a cash value.
So, no one under 18/21 (dependant) would not be able to legally play i presume.

Poker on NamePros? Isnt this a domaining forum? I could see a special event, but not a regular thing.

:imho:

Exactly what I was thinking, people come here for domains, domain sells, not for poker tournaments.

We suggested this to RJ a while ago and he was talking to his lawyer re: the legalities of it.

I personally wold love it though

I is an interesting idea, but it may or may not be considered illegal as it can be converted to legal tender, but yet it isn't... puzzling...
I'm kind of split on this idea, this is a domaining forum, but poker is fun, but I can't afford it and yadayadayada.
But we're going to have to find out what -RJ-'s lawyer says.

It'd be hard to determine who is over/under 18/21. If the gambling bill passes, it wouldnt matter =(

It's simple in my mind's view, if Poker is to be hosted on THIS site, the site would have to be based outside of the USA. They could open up another site however which would be linked to this one by name only I suppose. So long as it is hosted elsewhere, i.e. Gibraltar, then there should be no problems, so long as age verification is in check

nothing against your idea as it would be cool, but I think the focus should be on domains and getting DNOA off the ground and I imagine poker would only delay DNOA even longer, you can contact party poker, pacific poker etc... and they will set up a private room as long as you have say 20-25 people, I can't remember which company did this before for myself and about 25 others as it was more than a year ago at another forum but it was done by one of these companies, could possibly have them set it up as a once a month meeeting if enough people are game to continue playing once a month, just an idea for ya as I was involved in something similiar, just can't remember which company did it for us and what their minimum amount of players was exactly.

That definitely would be the best option. No legalities.

The site would have to be licenced. but I will play im 18.

so if its hosted in another country its legal to host without a licence?? (ive never heard that one)

count me in if you do go ahead for it. I am sure many programmers would be able to do the programming for free provided they get NP$ free for the work :D.

just make it that extensive measures are put in place to prevent minors from regging. im 18 so yeppe.

BTW there is no real way to stop minors they could just get their dad to sign up and play.

at casino-on-net I could gamble that was when I was 17. gambling is bad thou I was upto $280 got greedy and lost it all (started with $50) "Never play against a machine" I dont gamble anymore except for free on tuesdays when we have poker and blackjack with a real dealer :D

but poker is fun to play.

Gambling is also against PayPal's T&C. So the only way would be Domain Credit (which I never use). There's the hassle of licensing, different nationalities, under-age users. In my opinion, it's not worth it.

As mentioned earlier, this is a domaining forum and personally, I'd like to see it kept that way.

It would be a great idea using NP$ to play poker with but the age rule will always have to be looked at, the idea could work perfectly with no problems but you would always get some people moaning about it and how its not worth it. but personally i think its a great idea and would bring alot of new people to namepros as long as the poker was done to a high standard.
