My 11 year old son is trying to pick a domain name for a website that he is developing about Pokemon (the famous video/trading card game brand). "Pocket monsters" is kind of the insider's term for Pokemon. Which domain name do you think is the most valuable and could you put a pricetag on them also?

pocket-monsters.com
tradingpokemoncards.com
pokemon-trading.com

for the keyword "pocket monsters"
WordTracker = 37/day
KeywordDiscovery= 3,350/year

for the kw "pokemon trading"
WT = ? (nichebot didn't have it listed in the top 15)
KD = 1,711/year
Also might want to note that "pokemon trading" is within the kw "pokemon trading card game" which is a very good kw...
for the kw "pokemon trading card game" :
WT = 54/day
KD = 43,828/year

I couldn't get the WT & KD counts from Nichebot for "tradingpokemoncards" because it wasn't listed in the top 15 for that kw phrase.

Thank you for your input...and my son thanks you too!
:)

No Pokemon domain will be valuable.. that died like 5 years ago.

.. why does your kid play it? (and he's 11! wtf?!)

Why do you care about the domain, etc, for your son's Pokemon site?

(Sorry about being so negative.. :X)

I wouldn't agree that it died 5 years ago. I'd say it slowed down. Keyword Discovery has a count of 3,421,736 people per year looking up the word "pokemon". Also, Forbes magazine comes up with a list each year of the top earning fictional characters. "Pikuchu" is a Pokemon character and came in 8th place, making 825 million dollars (not the company, just that fictional character).

So there is still of :$: to be made with this brand. I do appreciate your pointing out that these fads don't last and it might be going out the door, though. But I would say the numbers are good and there are plenty of examples of toy fads lasting for decades (Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, etc.).

Most of the kids my son comes in contact with, that are his age, are interested in trading Pokemon cards with him. Most of the kids that I know of collect them...are even obsessed with collecting them. I believe the fad is either coming back or in our area it is coming back.

Anyway, I'd sure appreciate an apprasial if you'd be so kind.

I highly disagree with Dan Friedman. Pokemon is still very very popular, in fact its probably still the most popular video game-franchise, its just not as apparent as it was before.

Look at the current top video game searches on buzz yahoo. Pokemon outranks PSP, Xbox 360 ect. Pokemon is on par with world of warcraft.

I would go with pocket-monsters.com, as it is the most age-appropriate name for a web site oriented to a specific age demographic, and there is established popular familiarity with the term. When your son tells his friends about his web site, he's going to score more peer points with "pocket monsters" than the more mundane "trading pokeman cards" [yawwwwnnnn]. He should be having fun with his site, more so than worrying about keywords or hyphens or OVT or blah blah blah. :)

Plunk a minisite on the other two keyword-oriented domains and primarily point that traffic to pocket-monsters.com. Get maximum bang for your reg bucks.

Dan Friedman, there was no call to crassly comment about why an 11-year-old child would be playing with Pokeman cards. Or question the parent's motivations for doing fun stuff with their kid. Carjamlangley contributed a most professional, courteous, and well thought-out post, and it deserved no less of a quality reply. Sure wish one of my parents had taken the time to 'splain it to me, I wouldn't have tossed so many reg fee dollars down the Newbie Bottomless Pit.... :)

I thought Yu-Gi-Oh was the big thing now? I liked Digimon personally, that cartoon rocked, and I'm like 26.

Disney Channel Games is above PSP and Xbox 360... Tetris and Pacman are high on that list. I'm not sure why you had to bump this thread after 2 weeks...

I've seen maybe 2 or 3 kids playing Pokemon in the last 4 years, and maybe 5 playing Yu-Gi-Oh.. I know people around age group wonderfully, and if you doubt me, that's great for you.

My main thing was that what's the point of a high OVT or anything else for an 11 year old's site about Pokemon?

The RULES said:

Hmm..

"I liked Digimon personally"

HAHA! Agreed. God I remember watching that in High School.
