.US domains.US domains
It's not simply the domain name. It's the entire business.

If it's real that sure if a ton of cash! I'm sure they'll get POF.com domain along with it then. Match just took out one of their biggest competitors by far.

How can someone who has been a member since 2006 not know the difference between a business and a domain name? It is hard to believe.

did I say it was just a domain?
I know exactly what it was, just didn't realize I had to post it for the new 2014 members ;)

it's a given!

I remember the guy that started it talking about it on Webmaster World back in the day, from 2006:
"How I made a million in 3 months."
https://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/13958.htm

I just downloaded that entire thread; what a great read.

The guy is a technical genius;
" From 1990 to 1995 some professors used several super computers and hundreds of computers to find a string of prime numbers. I spent half a year writing a program that made the search thousands of times faster by storing numbers in multipul dimensions and then scanning all dimensions at the same time via a wheel factorization sieve. I found a bigger string of numbers in under 2 weeks on a single machine. Its all public."

Very impressive.

They have been buying up LLL pof names over the years - 15 sales listed on Namebio, highest was .net at 18k, lowest .us 1.5k.

You don't know what you are talking about. This sale of a business has nothing to do with domain names. No more so than if Match.com is sold or launches an IPO. You started this thread because you thought that the sale has something to do with a domain name. It doesn't. Other posters may have a relevant story about the origins of the business, but you did not mention that. Even then, the story means zero for domain names. All businesses have websites, and they all have to start somewhere.

Would you mind sending it to me? I'd really like to read it, without having to load the thread each time.

You don't know what you are talking about..

Yes she does, don't let the lavender flower fool ya.

This is a great domaining news story. How someone in an apartment and a domain name with a 'crazy' idea like taking the old adage 'there's plenty of fish in the sea'' and make it into a dating website. Then sell it for 575 million 12 years later.

It is a business story, not a domaining story. That is why PlentyOfFish.com forwards to POF.com. If it were a domaining story, the name would be based on PlentyOfFish.com. The name Plenty of Fish adds absolutely zero value to the business, and that is why they use POF.

This is the final free lesson. If you cannot understand the basics of life, business, and domain names, then you can spend the time on your own to figure it out....or not.

The domain and idea Plenty of Fish was the hook that got the minnows which 12 years later caught the 575 million dollar whale. I give constant free lessons and never put any limits on them. Have a nice day.

The last time I heard about "POF" they were called PlentyOfFish; that's the (domain) name they became popular using. I had no clue they rebranded and purchased their acronym domain name. In that sense, this is domain news to me! B-)

sigh, sadly I am not the newbie here, and since you don't know me or what my intention or even what my
thought was.... for this thread it's a pretty silly remark considering the info is RIGHT THERE for you to read.
doesn't say DOMAIN NAME ONLY...does it?

- not sure what you have an issue with but just for you I guess next time I will spell it out!

I would also not have included a link if I did not know it was about the business as well...correct?
after all I did read it...a few times ;)

It is there to read, the source is provided...just read it and then you will understand what it's about since you seem to be having trouble comprehending it ;)

and PS: I am a woman of few words, short and sweet and to the point....I can't read it for you!
