Please test out
http://www.bMarks.mobi

Register for a new account, add bookmarks, browse around, etc.

Things I am working on/planning:
Better layout (you'll see some left over images and colors here and there)
Stronger algorithm
bookmarklet for operamini (one click addition of bookmarks)
changing the name of "mark" and "bury" (used just for clarification in the design process)

If all goes well, the site should be 100% ready by next week.

Thanks!

Nice site! If you could do an IP detection to only allow 1 signup per ip and avoid the email necessity, I think it would be alot more convenient. Some devices can access the internet, but can't necessarily access emails.

Thanks Reece.
Having an email address on file is convenient for lost passwords. I didn't want to have to ask questions like "Mother's maiden name" for lost password retrievals because I don't have a secure server.

Also, if there are any huge changes I'd like to be able to notify members.

----

I think I should also start working on a terms of service agreement, just a small one. Anyone have any suggestions for that?

Here's a few of my thoughts:
No adult, direct links to illegal stuff, etc.
Attempts to cheat the algorithm will result in banned ip addresses
Maybe something about comment spam

Great ideas -- maybe add in a line or two about it being inacceptable to use your service as a means of gaining access to member's email addresses. Unauthorized use of your service will not be tolerated and will result in ..... You're not permitted to reverse engineer, copy, modify, or use this software in any way, shape, or form, other than what is explicitly stated as acceptable use in these terms of service.

Have fun with it :)

Quick question:
Do you think it is important to list all of the bookmarks a member has voted positively for in their profile? I think I remember someone saying that they use digg to keep track of sites they like. The current setup on bMarks shows all of the bookmarks that they have personally added to the system, but only shows the last 10 that they've voted for. I'm considering the following change:

http://www.bmarks.mobi/profile.php?username=test

Make 4 sections:
User's bookmarks (bookmarks they've personally added)
User's most recent comments
User's bumps (good votes)
User's dumps (bad votes) (only visible if the logged in user = the profile being viewed, think this is a good idea?)

I've been working pretty hard on the profile page. Here are some features I've added:

Navigation menu. Profile defaults to displaying bumps (diggs), but gives options to display adds, comments, and (see below) dumps (buries).

Dumps (buries) are only shown if the profile belongs to the logged on user. I figure this is kind of a privacy issue.

Pagination with 9 results per page. Reason for the 9 is that each result gets the accesskey corresponding to the number next to it.

Next and Back buttons, with Next displayed first (got the idea from foxnews.mobi). Also, if there are a ton of results, only the 1st page, 10 pages around the current page, and last page will be given links on the bottom. No need to display 100 links in a mobile phone!

---

Please play around with this and see if you can find any bugs. Also, if you can think of anything that would make the profile page more mobile friendly.

---

It's taking me a little longer than I hoped for, but I keep thinking of new things to add and I'm kind of a perfectionist. I have a feeling I'm not the only one working on mobile social bookmarks though, so I'm going as fast as possible!

Thanks!
Jorge

I'm kind of surprised that the Namepros .mobi community isn't as excited about this site as I am. I always try to respond to requests for comments/ideas/suggestions. I post huge lists of available names based on many hours of hand picking. I even try to offer as many _thoughtful_ appraisals as I have time for.

I thought that maybe since there are so many people preaching about how important development is for .mobi that those same people would be willing to step forward and offer their view of what a mobile social bookmarks site should be like.

I don't mean to be whining here, even though that's exactly what I'm doing. I have no problem developing the site myself, I just thought I'd mention my shock at the relative lack of support from such an active community, a community that I am very much a part of.

By the way, I am more angry at the a-holes that stole my truck last night. Sorry for taking it out on you all.

I'm getting quite a few hits from this thread, so I thought I'd post an update. I added pagination to a bunch of pages. I'm working on making the categories sorted by weight or by score. weight will be calculated based on several factors, making it more like digg. Score will just be straight number of votes.

With m.youtube.com being released, I will also try and integrate video somehow.

You have some code that needs cleaning up but it looks good and works.

I'd view it on my mobile but they charge a hundred dollar a minute.

lol, I worked a loophole with sprint to get unlimited for $5/mo. I'm making this site so people have a better resource to find mobile (small) sites.

re: the code, it's a work in progress. You might see some errors here and there since I have error reporting on. I'm picking away at it one night at a time. Takes a long time to do, I'm glad I had someone else build the majority of it.

Added pagination to the last thing requiring it (popular bookmarks section) and beefed up the popular bookmarks section with several options for times (most popular from past 1 day, 7 days, etc.).

Please post your ideas for a better algorithm. It would help me out immensely, as that will be the next (and pretty much last) major change before launch.

Thanks!

Great site. I have already registered and tried the site and it works great for me. Couple of suggestions I would give is that you can make a icon ( fevicon) similer to what other bookmark site like deli.cio.us has. So, for example, I can put that icon on dir.mobi and someone will click it and dir.mobi can then be added into your bookmark site. This is a good marketing and branding tool as well. Another suggestion is to put the bookmark categories on the index page itself, if possible. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks vcool. I am planning on making a little icon to go along with the millions of other ones available (but mine will be the only one for mobile!). I'm also going to make a plugin for SMForum to bookmark any thread (on SMF's with the mobile skin). Regarding the category list on the main page, the current setup is how my developer originally designed it, but I've been moving stuff around. I also think it would be nice to have more direct access to the bookmarks. I imagine most people who visit digg do it to see what's on the main page, not to have to click 2 separate links just to get a list of bookmarks. I also don't want to have too bulky of a main page, so I'll have to find a happy medium (ie, just the "recently popular" bookmarks and maybe a dropdown list of categories.)

Thanks again!

Logo

I decided to take a break from working on the coding a whip up a litte logo, courtesy of http://creatr.cc

The favicon-icon that can be placed on people's blogs, pages, etc to "bMark it" will be just the :b part. I like it because it looks like a face.

I then went on to change all of the fixed width items to relative width to make ready.mobi happy. There's still a couple of errors that are unfair, imo, but I will work those out and will have it back at a 5 soon.

Any thoughts on the logo? It seems familiar, so please let me know if I'm inadvertently stealing someone's logo!

Disabled the algorithm for now, so it will initially just be a straight sort by votes, organized by category and date.

Cleaned some loose ends up and made it return you to the last page you were at before logging in (rather than having to find the bookmark again)

Need to figure out a way to prevent a back button resubmission.

Also, should the bookmark automatically be voted for when you add it, or should you be given the option?

Thanks!

A new bookmark addition now automatically adds 1 vote and prevents the user from revoting (previously a problem).

Main page will be cleaned up tonight. I'm probably just going to switch to tables, since I can't seem to get the css to look right while still satisfying ready.mobi

Logo will be placed throughout tonight, and new footer will be added to start tracking visitors. Anyone know a good stats script for .mobi's?

Got another idea from foxnews.mobi, making # and * the accesskeys for the NEXT and BACK buttons. If you get a chance, please test these out.

Still working on the header and footer files, would really appreciate it if someone could recommend some html-only stats scripts.

Huge updates today, front page looks completely different and more importantly, should look the same on all phones. Now getting a 4.90/5 on ready.mobi (weird encoding failure, even though encoding is set correctly). Created a beefed up injection protection script. Had to tweak entire script to accept this new feature. Only things left should be the header and footer and adding a logout option to the top of every page. Then the site will be ready for beta testing, during which I'll write some scripts to make it easier to add bookmarks and to vote, since not many people will want to click back a bunch of times just to vote for a site.

If you have any suggestions, now is the time to get them in. I don't know if anyone is actually reading this, I'm hoping at least some of you are as excited as I am.
